ADHD in Girls: How to Recognize the Symptoms
In this video I highlight the different ways ADHD symptoms tend to express themselves in girls. For a better sense of ADHD in general check out "How to Know if You Have ADHD:" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cx13a2-unjE To clarify: I am not suggesting that there is a "girl" or a "boy" form of ADHD. Either gender can have the hyperactivity component, and either gender can be primarily inattentive. In this video I talk about what is more common; however, it's important that we learn to recognize both forms in both genders. ADHD and Friendships: How to Play the Social Game!
The way ADHD brains develop can put us out of step with our childhood peers, leaving us feeling awkward, left out and with social anxiety that can follow us into adulthood. Here, I talk about my own experiences with that, and offer simple solutions. **note -- I want to add that one of the Brains pointed out that peers and the internet aren't always the best source of information, which is true. Cultures vary, biases like racism and sexism exist, and also, well-meaning advice that might work for one person won't necessarily be appropriate for another. My hope is that we can sift through all the information available to us and check in with ourselves as to whether or not it feels right. In any case, personally, if I'd known what to expect on a sleepover, how to be a good "host," or what appropriate etiquette is for a first date, I think I would have felt a lot more prepared to deal with the social situations I found myself in. ****LINKS!**** http://bit.ly/2bbAhRp Podcast mentioned in the video —great info about playdates and more! http://bit.ly/2bc9ckg Help Your Child with ADHD Make Friends http://bit.ly/2aHW5kX Helping girls with ADHD make friends http://bit.ly/2b5KiSE Friendship challenges for adults http://bit.ly/2b3FKew ADHD brains mature a few years late  And this is just for fun — one of the brains pointed out that reddit has an “outside” forum that treats the outside world like it’s actually a game. What is Wrong With Me? An ADHD Story
More often than not, adults suspect ADHD, but decide that the child is not having enough trouble to refer them for assessment. They wait until the child displays academic or severe social problems before seeking out a diagnosis, but this is a mistake according to Littman (2012). Girls mature faster neurobiologically, than boys do, so they don’t need to perform as poorly as boys of the same age, in order to be deficient enough to need help (O’Brien et al., 2010). Showing these girls that someone cares, and pointing out their academic successes, can help protect them from some of the more significant risk factors of ADHD. In fact, “one of the most powerful interventions that parents [and teachers] can offer is a consistent sense of hope” (Littman, 2012). However, early identification and intervention is key to help lessen the impact ADHD has on the lives of those who have the disorder, their families, their peers, and their teachers. ADHD in Girls: Addressing Anxiety, Defiant Behaviors, Focus and Attention Problems Naturally
Girls with ADHD oftentimes struggle with not only focus and attention issues but also behavioral and conduct disorders, anxiety and/or depression. In fact, a new study shows that girls with ADHD are more than five times as likely as neurotypical girls to have oppositional defiant disorder (ODD), a condition characterized by an ongoing pattern of irritability or anger or argumentative behavior. Findings also revealed that girls with ADHD are three times likely to be depressed, and four times more likely to suffer from anxiety as compared to non-ADHD girls. On the average, girls are diagnosed 5 years later than boys, a critical loss of time for getting the academic accommodations that can help them to succeed in life. A missed or late diagnosis is concerning -- particularly as girls head into their teen years-- and can manifest into self-esteem issues, emotional problems, eating disorders and risky behaviors. Neurofeedback training provides hope for those suffering from ADHD and comorbid conditions. The initial step, a quantitative electroencephalogram (QEEG) brain map can help assess if your child has symptoms of ADHD, as well any apparent brain changes that are associated with depression, anxiety and ODD. Through a series of neurofeedback sessions, the brain learns to properly regulate abnormal brain-wave patterns that underlie these conditions, helping to overcome symptoms. No drugs or invasive procedures; simple brain training that helps achieve positive, long-lasting improvements. Check out Dr. Chiappino's video and then call to schedule your child's QEEG brain map. 631.265.1223. www.newlifechiropractic.com
Girls with ADHD Are Slipping Through the Cracks wide format
Symptoms of inattentive ADHD are more common among girls. They are also easier to ignore or misdiagnose than are stereotypical symptoms of hyperactivity. This means too many girls are growing up undiagnosed, untreated, and burdened by feelings of shame and embarrassment. ADHD isn't as common in girls as boys, or at least it isn't as commonly diagnosed in girls, and today, in honor of ADHD awareness in October, I talk about our experience with hyperactive kids, talk about what ADHD looked like when our girls were little and what it looks like now, and what I think about the claims that ADHD is just a results of kids "sitting too long at school." Me, Autism and ADHD
Hey, Lily here (a.k.a Lil Blue Robin). I hope you enjoy my first video :) Since being diagnosed with autism after a lifetime of confusion and a few hard years of mental illness, I have discovered how difficult it is to find help and information for girls with autism, particularly teenagers and young adults. As an autistic teenage girl working it out as I go along I have decided to start this channel to help others or families of others who might be going through a similar situation. This is a new diagnosis for me so I am still learning new things all the time, but I hope that sharing those things with you as I learn them will help relieve some anxiety and loneliness from those who need to hear it, or even just to know that they are not alone. I'm not a medical professional and I don't know everything. However I do know that to a younger me, hearing about this from someone going through the same situation, experiencing it first-hand and who knows what it feels like would have meant a lot. I hope to create something that I wish had been there for me. Stick around and subscribe for upcoming videos :) Email: [email protected] Instagram: @lilbluerobin

ADHD in Girls: What You Should Know
Girls with ADHD are easily missed, not only by teachers and parents but by qualified professionals as well. For many years, people believed that ADHD was a condition experienced solely by boys and whilst much progress has been made since, boys are still more likely to be given an ADHD diagnosis.

Girls With ADHD At Higher Risk For Mental Disorders, UCLA study finds
According to a new UCLA study, young girls with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder are more likely to develop additional mental disorders such as depression and anxiety. ADHD is usually found in children between the ages of 6 to 12. According to the World Health Organization roughly 39 million people were living with ADHD in 2013. The data was comprised of 18 studies of 1,997 girls between the ages of 8 and 13. Researchers found that of the girls who suffered from ADHD 37.7 percent met the criteria for anxiety disorder, 12.8 percent were diagnosed with conduct disorder, and 10.3 percent were diagnosed with depression.
