How to do fashion sketches step by step
I'm Ioana Avram, fashion designer. Welcome to my Fashion teaching channel where you will find design videos starting from basic, easy level ( for beginners ) until advanced level. Follow my advices regarding the hand draw: anatomy studies, fashion poses, figures and croquis, learn about style and craft, fabrics and how to create garments. I love painting and sketching, I like fabrics and fashion magazines and especially pencil, ink and watercolor technique. I believe anyone can draw after practicing a while because all you need is work, work, work and enjoy, enjoy, enjoy. :) I made this channel to prove that it's ok to have talent, but not necessary. Through my one of a kind technique you will see how easy it will be to draw from now on. You will learn more about fashion and everything related to it: composition, shading, textures, different techniques and especially learn how to draw fashion sketches all by yourself. I will post new videos each Thursday so don't forget to subscribe. I will do my best to answer all comments. Ask anything you want, and feel free to leave any suggestions for future videos! All are taken into consideration. For more info visit my website fashion-teaching.com. Thank you and take care! FAQ: 1. What materials do you use for your drawings? ****************************************************** I use Toison d'Or or Koh-I-Noor pencils ( from 4B to 8B), Copic markers, Derwent coloured pencils, Canson paper or Fabriano paper, Factis eraser, metal pencil sharper and Winsor and Newton watercolors and ink. 2. Did you go to any art school or academy? ****************************************************** Yes, I studied design and fashion design ( for 4 years) at the University of Arts and Design in Cluj, Romania, Europe. I had a scholarship in Katowice, Poland and another one in Coburg, Germany and a course attended with Gary Tu - a well-known fashion illustrator from Taipei, Taiwan. 3.Where do you get your inspiration? ****************************************************** Basically I am very interested in any image and text that could grab my attention: fashion albums, history of art, books I read, movies I see...In fact, i will share below all my sources of inspiration. Find all my inspirational folders here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/397137153755499/photos/ 4. Do you have any links or books you can recommend? ****************************************************** Definitely I would recommend Gottfried Bammes' Anatomy, Barcsay's Anatomy and David Downton's illustrations that you will find here: http://www.daviddownton.com/ and here: http://instagram.com/daviddownton 5. How long have you been drawing? ****************************************************** 30 years ago some desperate parents interdicted their 3 years old child to use pencils to draw on their house's inner walls :). Due to this, and to the fact that all pencils, brushes and markers were forbidden, the child found another way to express: all chocolate received was hidden and used to "decorate" the walls when all other tools were not available.30 years later, here I am, willing to tell a story on every wall there is. Not with chocolate, like I used to :), but in watercolors, as you can find on my shop here: http://www.etsy.com/shop/bijuterra. Thank you, and hope to enjoy my illustrations and videos from your comfortable armchair, having a cup of warm milk in your hand and smiling. 6. How can I send my drawing to you? ****************************************************** For any personal advice you can send me your illustrations or questions here: [email protected] and I will reply. Thank you! 7. What materials do you mainly use for your drawings? In general, I use Copic Ciao markers and Touch Twin Markers, Quill Multiboard A4 white paper, 2B and HB Pentel and Faber-Castell 0.5 mechanical pencil and Faber-Castell PVC-Free Space Eraser (Cool name) and I use Uni-ball Signo white fineliner 2. Did you go to any art school or academy? No. I took Studio Arts in senior high school. It's not from that class that I learned evreything I know. I did learn new things from the class, but not to do with fashion illustration or manga drawings. I went to a regular high school, so it doesn't specialize in art. 3. How do you draw the models? Do you use any templates? I started out by tracing models from magazines which is harder than it sounds, but once you get the hang of it, it's pretty easy. Then of course, I searched all types of videos on YouTube and some sites as well on Google, which unfortunately, I don't remember. How I learned to draw my models is using the 9-Head technique. 4. How old are you? I am now 19 years old 5. How long have you been drawing? I'm pretty sure I started drawing at 6. That's probably my oldest memory of me drawing. I got into manga drawings when I was 11 years old, I started teaching myself how to draw manga when I was 13 years old. I started developing an interest in fashion design also when I was 11, but I pursued that interest or taken it further at the age of 14. So, I would say I started drawing fashion illustration at the age of 14. 6. Where do you get your inspiration? I get my inspiration from music, photos on Instagram, Tumblr fashion trends, things that I love. There are times where I am just in an Artist's Block and I feel really brain dead where I can't draw. Or I force myself to draw and it never turns out to be something that I like. 7. Do you have any links or books you can recommend? Definitely! Fashion Illustration by Anna Kiper and Fashion Poses for Fashion Illustrators by Sha Tahmasebi are two books that I own at the moment. I'm hoping to get more. These two books are very helpful if you're a beginner or even if you want to be a bit more advanced. MUSIC: Brittle Rille by Kevin MacLeod NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED

How to draw bags
When drawing an object, in this case, a bag, the drawing procedure is comparable to that of a carpenter or a sculptor, who find his image in a roughly formed material. In drawing, everything should start to be created from a rectangular block, or a parallelepiped. The representation of the bag is carefully constructed by small, individuals shapes that will later on form the whole objects. When drawing objects, make sure you understand their positions. Are they seen from side view? From front or from back? From up or from down? So take care of the perspective. In searching for the correct form, various accents are very important. The object is structured with transverse and lateral axes. The soft transitions of shapes are drawn with light lines. For the drawing part, the lines could have the same thickness but later on, when we will get to the shading, we will use soft lines for the light part and dark lines for those lines that are in the shadow. This will help us create the volume of the product that we want to draw. Now take a look at your object and see which are its main features. Try to draw the details: the handles, the zippers, the adjustable buckle if it is the case, the button clip, the rings, the magnet buttons or the hooks- if your bag has this. Also, the more accurate you draw, the easy will be for the viewer to imagine the bag you designed. Is it a clutch? A tote? A shopper bag or a backpack model? Experiment them all and please do send me your drawings on my email: [email protected] and I will reply. Now stay tuned to see other 2 models, keeping in mind the things we discussed until now. Make sure to play the video on its HD resolution and on full screen to see the details. Thank you and see you next time! Until then, if you want to be the first one to know about my video, please subscribe! Take care!

What Supplies Will You Need? | Fashion Sketching
Watch more How to Draw Fashion Sketches videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/501964-What-Supplies-Will-You-Need-Fashion-Sketching Learn what supplies you'll need for fashion design drawing from fashion designer Garo Sparo in this Howcast video. Supplies for fashion design. There are so many supplies out there that you could choose from. The best way to go about it is to systematically try different things. You need your mechanical pencils. They're very important. Different level leads, as far as hardness is concerned. You need to have a beautiful pen that you feel really comfortable drawing with. From there you could start to explore how you're going to color in your fashion illustrations. Whether you want to use pastels. Whether you want to use watercolor, gouache. Whether you want to use colored pencils. I can go, there's many other mediums out there. But, what's most important is to find a medium that you're most comfortable with. And to work with it to the best of your ability. There's all sorts of other tools that you're gonna need. You're gonna need a good smudger, good smudging stick. It's how you create all your shading. You're going to need a great eraser. Because, lord knows, you're gonna make mistakes. And that doesn't matter, you can just erase it. White out is a great tool for finishing sketches. There's all sorts of things. Just really have fun with it and really get comfortable with using your tools. So play around. Experiment. Play around with different kinds of paper. There's marker paper. There's all sorts of vellums. Etcetera, etcetera. You could even use cheap, printer paper if you want. That's a great thing to just practice on. So those are pretty much all the supplies you need to create a fashion portfolio.

What Does it Take to Be A Fashion Designer?
Click for more: http://ww2.kqed.org/artschool/ Oakland high school student Zachary Fernandez made it to the finals on the first season of Project Runway Junior, then headed straight back to Oakland School of the Arts to continue his education as a designer. His newest collection, Kathmandu, was inspired by recovery efforts in Nepal after the devastating 2015 earthquake. Art School followed Fernandez's process as he sketched, sourced fabric, and designed his new project, revealed at a culminating fashion show in spring 2016. Hi, my name is Zachary Fernandez and I'm currently a fashion student. So I am starting my Kathmandu 2016 collection. My collection's gonna be debuting at my school fashion show, and so I have little under seven weeks to get this all put together. So our school assignment was to pick a city that we wanted to be inspired by for this collection. I ended with Kathmandu, Nepal, all of the trouble that they went through last year was really inspiring and I was able to take those ideas of imbalance and the destruction of culture and apply that to this new collection. These are the pieces that I ended up designing. They're ever-changing and they kind of just are always in flux. My sketching process involves a lot of images, a lot of mixed medias, I like to do collages, watercolors, acrylic paste, it's a real reflection of what my mind looks like. Here you have the final sketches that I've done. The sketching process for me is really a major step between just ideas and kind of this fantasy world that I've created in my mind to really functional wearable pieces. Fabric sourcing is one of my favorite things to do. It's really like a group activity, like meet a couple of friends, we'll just go, we'll explore the city, we'll get inspiration. So I'm looking for like a very pale blue that's almost like very silverish, and then I'm gonna be looking for a very deep, rust orange color. Okay, so I need to find this, but more grayish blue. The fabric store is one of those places that you go in with one idea and one concept and one thought, and you come out with like 500 more. This is it. - This is it! - This is it. - [Girl] Dude! - Hey! Yes! So I spend the majority of my time draping and it's definitely a part that will make or break a piece. I take a piece of muslin, which is just a really basic blend fabric, and I started sculpting it to the dress form. And then those mock-ups that I make of the dress form are then fitted to the model, and sometimes I try them on a model, I'm like, this is hideous, I don't know why, it just overpowers her or something happens and that leads to even better ideas and even more just, creativeness. When you design while you create, I just think it takes so much longer and you like pressure yourself so much more. So, my design mind is turned off. And it's just about sewing, and sewing, and sewing, and sewing, and sewing. So after I finish draping, I take a part of that mockup and I totally seam rip it and I re-pattern it, and then I cut out of my real fabric. It's always really nerve-wracking 'cause a lot of times the fabric's all that you have, either the budget doesn't allow for you to get more fabric, or there's simply not anymore left. It has this like box-like structure in it. The box is actually lined with horse-hair so that it can kind of take the shape and that's why I'm kind of trying to like manipulate it right now 'cause it just takes on whatever shape you really need it to. The show, oh the show. Six days, and I'm still cutting up fabric like, I don't think that's normal. There's always going to be that last minute hurry up and finish like state of being. I have a picture in my mind about how this is supposed to go, but who knows if it actually go that way. I think that there can be a lot of different ways to read the look. Obviously you look for like the main things like color, silhouette, is this an evening piece, is this a day piece and you just kind of put the garment and choose certain categories and that really helps people read fashion out, by the time the piece is on the runway I'm already thinking about a whole new collection and I'm really thinking something totally different, but it doesn't really hit me that these people, for them it's the first time that they've seen this. I've spent months and months planning and sketching and putting it together. If I see all these different things in these pieces, but no one else does, then it's kind of sad, but then it's also part of what makes fashion art, is because people see it in so many different ways. We are in my home, studio, bedroom combination in Berkeley, California. I have this look from Project Runway Junior, which was the first episode, and this look for my most recent collection. They really mean a lot to me 'cause they show how much progress I've made within the last four, five months.

Fashion sketches inspired by ABANDONED PLACES
Fashion sketches inspired by ABANDONED PLACES Hello, As you saw from my previous 5 videos, we already started, the 1st of November, the Fashion Teaching Online Classes - group A. As I said, these online classes of mine are addressed for people who want to study in private with me, online. This does not mean that I won’t post my videos on Youtube, each Thursday, as you are already used to. My YouTube and my private courses will go in parallel: YouTube will always be free and my private lessons are something extra, for those of you who want more. What can one learn at my online, private classes? - how to sketch fast - how to achieve a perfect drawing - how to harmonize colors in a fashion collection - how to think like a fashion designer - how to use fashion trends in their ideas - how to sketch costumes inspired by a certain topic - how to concept a collection starting from any source of inspiration - how to boost creativity in no time - how to draw your own fashion collection For how things are working in these classes, see the previous 5 videos I posted on my YouTube channel last week. (https://www.facebook.com/groups/FTOnlineClasses/) And now, let’s start sketching: For any drawing you made, you can use graphite pencils, colored pencils, markers, watercolor, chalk, collage – at your choice. The collection could be in done in pencil or colored if you want. You can add any details, texts or materials. Think of the layouting/pagination and make the drawing beautiful – as you would present it to your client. You can get inspired by a single photo or as many as you want. Before starting sketching, I have searched these things on the internet: Colored water and rivers, industrial vapors, altered nature, extra-terrestrial images, heavy explosions, residues, corroded details, Lower Antelope Canyon. I stopped to this image because I found it interesting enough to extract some creative things that might lead to a mini fashion collection. Arches, details, the plants themselves inspired me to create 3 different outfits. Hope you liked my video! If so, please not forget to press the thumbs up button and to subscribe for more. Thank you and see you next Thursday, as always!

Fashion sketches inspired by BURNING MAN festival
Fashion sketches inspired by BURNING MAN festival. Hello, As you saw from my previous 4 videos, we already started, the 1st of November, the Fashion Teaching Online Classes - group A. Well, here they are: - how to sketch fast - how to achieve a perfect drawing - how to harmonize colors in a fashion collection - how to think like a fashion designer - how to use fashion trends in their ideas - how to sketch costumes inspired by a certain topic - how to concept a collection starting from any source of inspiration - how to boost creativity in no time - how to draw your own fashion collection For how things are working in these classes, see the previous 4 videos I posted on my YouTube channel last week. (https://www.facebook.com/groups/FTOnlineClasses/) And now, let’s get to the video for today: Fashion sketches inspired by BURNING MAN festival. The easiest way of starting a collection inspired by a theme is to observe the shapes. You can almost copy the model and adapt it in order to create an outfit. I think it is obvious what inspired me here. As I said before, for this stage it is recommended to use simple lines. These drawings will help you express your ideas, so, there is no need to add the human body or any anatomical details. I am inspired by greasy pencils or charcoal pencils because they leave bold marks. The beautiful gray tones come from the pressure of my hand. That’s why I prefer these pencils – because with an HB pencils one cannot obtain such pressure. After drawing the large volumes, i just added details. The hands are not very important, so, I just suggested the fact that she will wear a tight blouse beneath the dress. For the second costume, I took the shape of the arch in the left part of the drawing and made an autumn tunic. The wheels inspired a hat and the lamp that hangs beneath the arch, the jewelries. The color was not the main point here, so, the drawing remained black and white. For the third drawing, i took the lamp once again and made a hat out of it. This time, was not the shape that inspired me but the texture. After sketching the volume, the most interesting part for me was to explore the details. All that lacy texture I used to imagine my outfit like having embroidery with golden threads. This time, color helped me to imagine even better how the costume will be brought to life. All 3 costumes are designed for winter time. I did 3 variants inspired by a single image just to show you the endless possibilities an image can offer. If you want to learn more, to be included in my secret groups on facebook and to receive a personal feed-back on your drawings, join my fashion course that starts the 1st of December. How to Draw a Dress | Fashion Sketching
Watch more How to Draw Fashion Sketches videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/501941-How-to-Draw-a-Dress-Fashion-Sketching Learn how to draw a dress for a fashion sketch from fashion designer Garo Sparo in this Howcast video. This is how you draw a dress. First of all, you want to sketch out your croquis. This way you have something that you can erase later, and you can design without worrying about too many details. Just kind of think about what silhouette you want to do. I'm going to do a bateau neck, which is basically a boat neck, simple jersey dress. It has some flow just under the waist, just to give you a little bit of a kick in the hip, looks like a cute little summer dress. And just part of being a designer is just developing your esthetic, you just really have to just keep drawing nonstop, and then it will just come to you. But after I've drawn the dress, I then can over it in ink. And I did something that's very simple here, this is just a jersey dress, which jersey, of course, is just a stretchy, simple fabric. You do your outlines, draw in your drapiy-ness if you want it to happen, and then you go in with your eraser and get rid of all of your pencil lines. Et voila, that's how you draw a dress.
