Oracle 11G on RHEL 6.5 Setting Archive Log Mode for the Database

09:06
Verify the database log mode. The log mode is No Archive Mode. Note that Archive destination is USE_DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST. You can determine the path by looking at the parameter RECOVERY_FILE_DEST. By default, archive logs will be written to the flash recovery area. If you do not want to write archive logs to the flash recovery area you can set the parameter LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_n to the location in which you wish to write archive logs. Improving Oracle Performance with All-Flash Storage

05:10
A common deployment scenario for Oracle is to use EMC VMAX as the storage portion of the configuration. This creates an expensive upgrade path where you are constantly adding more disks to improve performance. An alternative to this solution is to add an All-Flash array to the mix, allowing you to have read operations directed to the higher IOPS All-Flash storage without needing to rip and replace the existing VMAX deployment. Hasmig Samurkashian talks about how 3PAR All-Flash storage can help improve Oracle performance in this interview from Discover 2015 in London.

Performing Oracle 11g ASM Data Migration

17:34
Performing Oracle 11g Automatic Storage Management - ASM Data Migration Purpose of ASM Data Migration Alternatives to ASM storage include file systems, raw disks, and SAN configurations. ASM includes a number of benefits over these storage alternatives, including performance optimization, redundancy protection, and load balancing. You do not need to obtain a third-party Logical Volume Manager because ASM manages disks for you. Oracle Real Application Clusters (Oracle RAC) databases benefit from ASM because it provides ready-made shared storage. If a database currently uses a storage system other than ASM, then you can migrate all or part of the database into ASM, thereby simplifying database administration. You can also migrate a flash recovery area to ASM. Native operating system commands such as Linux cp or Windows COPY cannot write or read files in ASM storage. Because RMAN can read and write ASM files, you can use RMAN to copy datafiles into and out of ASM storage or between ASM disk groups. This technique is useful if you need to store backups on user-managed disks.

Table Point In Time Recovery (PITR) in Oracle Database 12c

02:47
This video gives a quick demonstration of the table point in time (PITR) in Oracle Database 12c. Note. In this case it would be easier to do a flashback query to get the data as it was, but I'm using this simple example to demonstrate this functionality. For more information see: https://oracle-base.com/articles/12c/rman-table-point-in-time-recovery-12cr1 https://oracle-base.com/articles/12c/multitenant-rman-backup-recovery-cdb-and-pdb-12cr1#pdb-pitr-recovery Website: https://oracle-base.com Blog: https://oracle-base.com/blog Twitter: https://twitter.com/oraclebase Cameo by Uwe Hesse : Blog: https://uhesse.com/ Twitter : https://twitter.com/UweHesse Cameo appearances are for fun, not an endorsement of the content of this video. Oracle Guaranteed restore points

39:29
Restore points and related data protection features enable us to rewind data back in time to correct any problems caused by logical data corruption or user errors within a designated time window. These features provide a more efficient alternative to point-in-time recovery and does not require a backup of the database to be restored first. The effects are similar to database point-in-time recovery (DBPITR). Restore points is not only effective in traditional database recovery situations but can also be useful during database upgrades, application deployments and testing scenarios when test databases must be quickly created and re-created. Restore points provide capabilities related to Flashback Database and other media recovery operations. In particular, a guaranteed restore point created at a system change number (SCN) ensures that you can use Flashback Database to rewind the database to this SCN. You can use restore points and Flashback Database independently or together

INSTALLING ORACLE 12c DB WITH DBCA

06:43
This video shows how to install a non-cdb database using a file system with the 12c installer. To save space, the flash recovery area is reduced. You can use the menus to change this to suit your needs. The installation does not take advantage of multiplexing files on different areas of storage. However, you can do this later, moving controlfiles and log files onto different file systems to simulate real life DBA tasks.
