Lessons in Hitchhiking - It Happened One Night (7/8) Movie CLIP (1934) HD

It Happened One Night movie clips: http://j.mp/1JdtYGx BUY THE MOVIE: http://amzn.to/rDJHKd Don't miss the HOTTEST NEW TRAILERS: http://bit.ly/1u2y6pr CLIP DESCRIPTION: Ellie (Claudette Colbert) teaches Peter (Clark Gable) how to really hitchhike. FILM DESCRIPTION: Frank Capra's seminal screwball comedy, which won all five major Academy Awards for 1934, is still as breezy and beguiling today. Claudette Colbert plays Ellie Andrews, a spoiled heiress who has married fortune-hunting aviator King Westley (Jameson Thomas), despite her father (Walter Connolly)'s objections. To keep Ellie from marrying this lothario, her father has been holding her prisoner aboard his yacht. But Ellie bolts from the yacht, swims ashore in her clothes, and eventually slips onto a Greyhound bus bound for New York. Aboard the bus is newspaper reporter Peter Warne (Clark Gable), who has recently been fired for drinking on the job. Peter gets the last seat on the bus -- but when he gets up to argue with the bus driver, Ellie takes his seat. Since it is the last seat on the bus, they have to share it. When Ellie has her purse stolen and she refuses to report it, Peter begins to suspect something. The next morning, they both miss the bus after a leisurely breakfast, and Peter reveals that he knows her identity. She makes a deal with him: if he helps her get to New York, he can write a scoop about her for his paper. Peter thinks she is a spoiled brat, however, and refuses a monetary bribe: "I'm not interested in your money or your problem. You, King Westley, your father -- you're all a lot of hooey to me!" But as they travel northward and engage in a series of misadventures, the gruff newspaperman and the spoiled rich girl, thrown together by circumstances, fall in love with each other. This movie set the pace for the "screwball" comedy, the witty and romantic clash of temperaments between a man and a woman mismatched in both personality and social position, a type of movie often associated with Katherine Hepburn in such classics as Bringing Up Baby (1938), The Philadelphia Story (1940), and, with Spencer Tracy, Adam's Rib (1949), Pat and Mike (1952), and Desk Set (1957), among others. The only other movies to win all five major Academy Awards (Best Picture, Actor, Actress, Director, and Screenplay) were One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975) and The Silence of the Lambs (1991). Fantasia in F minor, K. 608 by W.A. Mozart

14:26
We hope you enjoy this performance of one of the most powerful - and sublime - compositions of all time, played by Marshall & Ogletree co-founder, Doug Marshall. This is the first recording of M&O Opus 7 at St. Stephen Martyr Roman Catholic Church, Washington, DC. Located just a few blocks from the White House at 2436 Pennsylvania Avenue, St. Stephen's has been the Washington church home of a number of famous politicians, including the late President John F. Kennedy. The console's case design contains elements inspired by the building's architecture. It is lavishly appointed, including long-shank English keyboards featuring 1/10th-cut genuine ivory tracker touch keys and our signature mahogany interior. The audio system, shown at 11:12 in the video, comprises 28 channels. More information is available at http://marshallandogletree.com.

He was one of the first important soloists in jazz (beating cornetist and trumpeter Louis Armstrong to the recording studio by several months and later playing duets with him) and was perhaps the first notable jazz saxophonist. His playing is characterized by forceful delivery, well-constructed improvisations, and a distinctive wide vibrato. Bechet's erratic temperament hampered his career, however, and not until the late 1940s did he earn wide acclaim. Othello Summary | Summary, Themes and Plot of Othello | Othello by Shakespeare

39:44
This video wil show you the summary of Othello. Othello is a tragedy by William Shakespeare, believed to have been written in 1603. It is based on the story Un Capitano Moro ("A Moorish Captain") by Cinthio, a disciple of Boccaccio, first published in 1565.The story revolves around four central characters: Othello, a Moorish general in the Venetian army; his beloved wife, Desdemona; his loyal lieutenant, Cassio; and his trusted but ultimately unfaithful ensign, Iago. Given its varied and enduring themes of racism, love, jealousy, betrayal, revenge and repentance, Othello is still often performed in professional and community theatre alike, and has been the source for numerous operatic, film, and literary adaptations. ................................................... LES PIRES FLOPS DU PSG VERSION QSI

05:50
A scene of Glenda Farrell as Teresa "Torchy" Blane. In this scene, Torchy is talking to Jane Wyman's character, Dixie the hat-check girl. Interestingly, Jane Wyman would later take on the role of Torchy Blane in one of the nine Torchy Blane movies. "Torchy Blane.. Playing with Dynamite", the film in which Wyman starred, is reputed to have killed the series, as they couldn't get Glenda Farrell back, due to contract reasons, and audiences didn't accept Wyman in the role. This is from the 1937 Torchy Blane movie "Smart Blonde".

‹The template Infobox short story is being considered for deletion.›  "Bartleby, the Scrivener: A Story of Wall Street" (1853) is a short story by the American writer Herman Melville, first serialized anonymously in two parts in the November and December editions of Putnam's Magazine, and reprinted with minor textual alterations in his The Piazza Tales in 1856. The story of the lawyer-narrator who cannot bring himself to remove from his office the silent scrivener (save for the repeated phrase "I would prefer not to"). Breaking News - New boss makes mark at Chelsea with ‘Sarri-ball’ showing fun to come

07:18
Amid the downpour in Perth that made the WACA's usually pristine turf feel more like a paddling pool, one training drill in particular stood out. It started with Chelsea's players playing with the ball at the back, producing one-touch passes as if for the sake of it, before a whistled signal from Maurizio Sarri. Suddenly, choreographed chaos. The ball had to be handed to Jorginho and the entire team would break at electrifying speed, the move eventually ending once Alvaro Morata had scored. An exercise in how to go from back to front in less than 10 seconds, essentially, and one we can expect to see examined on Match of the Day this season. If they scored, Sarri would shout: 'Again.' If they missed: 'Again.' If they messed it up midway through: 'Again.' Repetitive, but the new boss wants this to become second nature. 'Sarrismo,' is what they called it in Italy. 'Sarri-ball,' is what they're calling it at Chelsea. This is the Sarri style of play which he promised Blues bosses will work in the Premier League. Under Antonio Conte, there were complaints of dull defensive work becoming too mundane to bear at Cobham. Sarri's at least focused on attack in Australia on Saturday. Maybe it was for the benefit of local Premier League fanatics who scrambled to catch a glimpse at the WACA, maybe because he knew there was media present. Yet Sarri, the chain-smoking former banker who never played professional football, did not seem to take note of the intruders. He started the session by coming out early to place cones in their correct places, and finished it with the look of a man pleased with his day's work. All exercises were conducted under the watchful eye of Sarri while fitness coach Paolo Bertelli was also particularly involved. Gianfranco Zola and Carlo Cudicini stood on the touchline and surveyed from afar, stood by the boundary of the WACA at times. One drill included keeping possession in tight circles while defenders acted as piggies in the middle. Another was about winning the ball as high up the pitch as possible. There was also a short 11-a-side match with both teams playing 4-2-3-1 in the first half then 4-3-3 in the second. Jorginho the orchestrator on one side, Cesc Fabregas on the other. As a first glimpse of Sarri at work on the training ground, this was revealing. Conte was known for being temperamental. His successor, still idolised in Napoli, was given few reasons to lose his cool here. Chelsea's presence in Perth has been felt well ahead of Monday night's friendly. The local Perth paper poked fun at how flash they had found Chelsea following their visit, citing how they had hired a private jet that cost £335,000 and came with butlers. The owner of Perth Glory, their opponents on Monday, reckons his club is worth around £9m total. Sarri arrived in Australia with his new squad on Thursday night and scheduled double sessions for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Another will follow on Monday ahead of their friendly on the night.

If Beale Street Could Talk, Ballad of Buster Scruggs join 2018 New York Film Festival lineup: http://ew.com/movies/2018/08/07/2018-new-york-film-festival-lineup/. Thanks for watching, subscribe for more videos: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtZxDBnmqFO79Gho7odw-Dg?sub_confirmation=1  A score of international auteurs are heading to Manhattan for the 2018 New York Film Festival.  The Film Society of Lincoln Center on Tuesday announced the event’s main slate, which includes a wide range of cinematic offerings from 30 diverse perspectives and 22 countries around the world — including several titles gunning for Oscar recognition.  Perhaps the most notable additions to the 2018 lineup are the Coen brothers’ first Netflix feature, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, which began life as an anthology series but has since evolved into a motion picture starring Tim Blake Nelson, Zoe Kazan, Brendan Gleeson, and Liam Neeson, and If Beale Street Could Talk, Barry Jenkins’ directorial follow-up to his Best Picture-winning drama Moonlight.  Also primed for NYFF presentations are Paul Dano’s directorial debut, Wildlife, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Carey Mulligan as a couple on the brink of destruction, and The Image Book, cinema legend Jean-Luc Godard’s experimental meditation on himself and his chosen medium.  Most of NYFF’s 2018 slate, however, is populated by foreign filmmakers perhaps eyeing a break into the Oscars’ foreign-language race — many of whom showed their NYFF entries at Cannes in May, including Olivier Assayas’ Non-Fiction, Jafar Pahani’s 3 Faces, Pawel Pawlikowski’s Cold War, Jia Zhangke’s Ash Is the Purest White, and Hirokazu Kore-eda’s Shoplifters (which won the Palme d’Or).  Four female filmmakers — Claire Denis, Tamara Jenkins, Alice Rohrwacher, and Dominga Sotomayor — are scheduled for NYFF screenings this year as well.  “These films were made all over the globe, by young filmmakers like Dominga Sotomayor and masters like Fred Wiseman, by artists of vastly different sensibilities from Claire Denis to the Coen Brothers, Jafar Panahi to Jean-Luc Godard. And the unifying thread is their bravery, the bravery needed to fight past the urge to commercialized smoothness and mediocrity that is always assuming new forms,” NYFF director Kent Jones said in a statement. “That’s what makes every single title in this year’s Main Slate so precious, and so vital.”  As previously announced, the festival will kick off Sept. 28 with a screening of Yorgos Lanthimos’ 18th-century drama The Favourite, starring Emma Stone, Rachel Weisz, and Olivia Colman, and will feature a Centerpiece presentation of Alfonso Cuarón’s semi-autobiographical tale Roma. Willem Dafoe’s Julian Schnabel-directed Vincent van Gogh biopic At Eternity’s Gate will conclude the festival Oct. 12.  Check out the full 2018 New York Film Festival lineup below. Tickets are available now.  Opening Night: The Favourite Dir. You Bet Your Life: Secret Word - Door / Paper / Fire

01:25:21
Julius Henry "Groucho" Marx (October 2, 1890 -- August 19, 1977) was an American comedian and film and television star. He is known as a master of quick wit and widely considered one of the best comedians of the modern era. His rapid-fire, often impromptu delivery of innuendo-laden patter earned him many admirers and imitators. He made 13 feature films with his siblings the Marx Brothers, of whom he was the third-born. He also had a successful solo career, most notably as the host of the radio and television game show You Bet Your Life. His distinctive appearance, carried over from his days in vaudeville, included quirks such as an exaggerated stooped posture, glasses, cigar, and a thick greasepaint mustache and eyebrows. These exaggerated features resulted in the creation of one of the world's most ubiquitous and recognizable novelty disguises, known as "Groucho glasses", a one-piece mask consisting of horn-rimmed glasses, large plastic nose, bushy eyebrows and mustache. Groucho Marx was, and is, the most recognizable and well-known of the Marx Brothers. Groucho-like characters and references have appeared in popular culture both during and after his life, some aimed at audiences who may never have seen a Marx Brothers movie. Groucho's trademark eye glasses, nose, mustache, and cigar have become icons of comedy—glasses with fake noses and mustaches (referred to as "Groucho glasses", "nose-glasses," and other names) are sold by novelty and costume shops around the world. Nat Perrin, close friend of Groucho Marx and writer of several Marx Brothers films, inspired John Astin's portrayal of Gomez Addams on the 1960s TV series The Addams Family with similarly thick mustache, eyebrows, sardonic remarks, backward logic, and ever-present cigar (pulled from his breast pocket already lit). Alan Alda often vamped in the manner of Groucho on M*A*S*H. In one episode, "Yankee Doodle Doctor", Hawkeye and Trapper put on a Marx Brothers act at the 4077, with Hawkeye playing Groucho and Trapper playing Harpo. In three other episodes, a character appeared who was named Captain Calvin Spalding (played by Loudon Wainwright III). Groucho's character in Animal Crackers was Captain Geoffrey T. Spaulding. On many occasions, on the 1970s television sitcom All In The Family, Michael Stivic (Rob Reiner), would briefly imitate Groucho Marx and his mannerisms. Two albums by British rock band Queen, A Night at the Opera (1975) and A Day at the Races (1976), are named after Marx Brothers films. In March 1977, Groucho invited Queen to visit him in his Los Angeles home; there they performed "'39" a capella. A long-running ad campaign for Vlasic Pickles features an animated stork that imitates Groucho's mannerisms and voice. On the famous Hollywood Sign in California, one of the "O"s is dedicated to Groucho. Alice Cooper contributed over $27,000 to remodel the sign, in memory of his friend. In 1982, Gabe Kaplan portrayed Marx in the film Groucho, in a one-man stage production. He also imitated Marx occasionally on his previous TV sitcom Welcome Back, Kotter. Actor Frank Ferrante has performed as Groucho Marx on stage for more than two decades. He continues to tour under rights granted by the Marx family in a one-man show entitled An Evening With Groucho in theaters throughout the United States and Canada with piano accompanist Jim Furmston. In the late 1980s Ferrante starred as Groucho in the off-Broadway and London show Groucho: A Life in Revue penned by Groucho's son Arthur. Ferrante portrayed the comedian from age 15 to 85. The show was later filmed for PBS in 2001. Woody Allen's 1996 musical Everyone Says I Love You, in addition to being named for one of Groucho's signature songs, ends with a Groucho-themed New Year's Eve party in Paris, which some of the stars, including Allen and Goldie Hawn, attend in full Groucho costume. The highlight of the scene is an ensemble song-and-dance performance of "Hooray for Captain Spaulding"—done entirely in French. In the last of the Tintin comics, Tintin and the Picaros, a balloon shaped like the face of Groucho could be seen in the Annual Carnival. In the Italian horror comic Dylan Dog, the protagonist's sidekick is a Groucho impersonator whose character became his permanent personality. The BBC remade the radio sitcom Flywheel, Shyster and Flywheel, with contemporary actors playing the parts of the original cast. The series was repeated on digital radio station BBC7. Scottish playwright Louise Oliver wrote a play named Waiting For Groucho about Chico and Harpo waiting for Groucho to turn up for the filming of their last project together. This was performed by Glasgow theatre company Rhymes with Purple Productions at the Edinburgh Fringe and in Glasgow and Hamilton in 2007-08. Groucho was played by Scottish actor Frodo McDaniel. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Groucho

Our Miss Brooks: Department Store Contest / Magic Christmas Tree / Babysitting on New Year's Eve

01:28:47
Our Miss Brooks is an American situation comedy starring Eve Arden as a sardonic high school English teacher. It began as a radio show broadcast from 1948 to 1957. When the show was adapted to television (1952--56), it became one of the medium's earliest hits. In 1956, the sitcom was adapted for big screen in the film of the same name. Connie (Constance) Brooks (Eve Arden), an English teacher at fictional Madison High School. Osgood Conklin (Gale Gordon), blustery, gruff, crooked and unsympathetic Madison High principal, a near-constant pain to his faculty and students. (Conklin was played by Joseph Forte in the show's first episode; Gordon succeeded him for the rest of the series' run.) Occasionally Conklin would rig competitions at the school--such as that for prom queen--so that his daughter Harriet would win. Walter Denton (Richard Crenna, billed at the time as Dick Crenna), a Madison High student, well-intentioned and clumsy, with a nasally high, cracking voice, often driving Miss Brooks (his self-professed favorite teacher) to school in a broken-down jalopy. Miss Brooks' references to her own usually-in-the-shop car became one of the show's running gags. Philip Boynton (Jeff Chandler on radio, billed sometimes under his birth name Ira Grossel); Robert Rockwell on both radio and television), Madison High biology teacher, the shy and often clueless object of Miss Brooks' affections. Margaret Davis (Jane Morgan), Miss Brooks' absentminded landlady, whose two trademarks are a cat named Minerva, and a penchant for whipping up exotic and often inedible breakfasts. Harriet Conklin (Gloria McMillan), Madison High student and daughter of principal Conklin. A sometime love interest for Walter Denton, Harriet was honest and guileless with none of her father's malevolence and dishonesty. Stretch (Fabian) Snodgrass (Leonard Smith), dull-witted Madison High athletic star and Walter's best friend. Daisy Enright (Mary Jane Croft), Madison High English teacher, and a scheming professional and romantic rival to Miss Brooks. Jacques Monet (Gerald Mohr), a French teacher. Our Miss Brooks was a hit on radio from the outset; within eight months of its launch as a regular series, the show landed several honors, including four for Eve Arden, who won polls in four individual publications of the time. Arden had actually been the third choice to play the title role. Harry Ackerman, West Coast director of programming, wanted Shirley Booth for the part, but as he told historian Gerald Nachman many years later, he realized Booth was too focused on the underpaid downside of public school teaching at the time to have fun with the role. Lucille Ball was believed to have been the next choice, but she was already committed to My Favorite Husband and didn't audition. Chairman Bill Paley, who was friendly with Arden, persuaded her to audition for the part. With a slightly rewritten audition script--Osgood Conklin, for example, was originally written as a school board president but was now written as the incoming new Madison principal--Arden agreed to give the newly-revamped show a try. Produced by Larry Berns and written by director Al Lewis, Our Miss Brooks premiered on July 19, 1948. According to radio critic John Crosby, her lines were very "feline" in dialogue scenes with principal Conklin and would-be boyfriend Boynton, with sharp, witty comebacks. The interplay between the cast--blustery Conklin, nebbishy Denton, accommodating Harriet, absentminded Mrs. Davis, clueless Boynton, scheming Miss Enright--also received positive reviews. Arden won a radio listeners' poll by Radio Mirror magazine as the top ranking comedienne of 1948-49, receiving her award at the end of an Our Miss Brooks broadcast that March. "I'm certainly going to try in the coming months to merit the honor you've bestowed upon me, because I understand that if I win this two years in a row, I get to keep Mr. Boynton," she joked. But she was also a hit with the critics; a winter 1949 poll of newspaper and magazine radio editors taken by Motion Picture Daily named her the year's best radio comedienne. For its entire radio life, the show was sponsored by Colgate-Palmolive-Peet, promoting Palmolive soap, Lustre Creme shampoo and Toni hair care products. The radio series continued until 1957, a year after its television life ended. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Our_Miss_Brooks

His influence on Western theatre, culture and politics extended from the 1880s to his death and beyond. He wrote more than sixty plays, including major works such as Man and Superman (1902), Pygmalion (1912) and Saint Joan (1923). With a range incorporating both contemporary satire and historical allegory, Shaw became the leading dramatist of his generation, and in 1925 was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. Born in Dublin, Shaw moved to London in 1876, where he struggled to establish himself as a writer and novelist, and embarked on a rigorous process of self-education. By the mid-1880s he had become a respected theatre and music critic. Following a political awakening, he joined the gradualist Fabian Society and became its most prominent pamphleteer. Shaw had been writing plays for years before his first public success, Arms and the Man in 1894. Influenced by Henrik Ibsen, he sought to introduce a new realism into English-language drama, using his plays as vehicles to disseminate his political, social and religious ideas. By the early twentieth century his reputation as a dramatist was secured with a series of critical and popular successes that included Major Barbara, The Doctor's Dilemma and Caesar and Cleopatra. Shaw's expressed views were often contentious; he promoted eugenics and alphabet reform, and opposed vaccination and organised religion. He courted unpopularity by denouncing both sides in the First World War as equally culpable, and although not a republican, castigated British policy on Ireland in the postwar period. These stances had no lasting effect on his standing or productivity as a dramatist; the inter-war years saw a series of often ambitious plays, which achieved varying degrees of popular success. In 1938 he provided the screenplay for a filmed version of Pygmalion for which he received an Academy Award. His appetite for politics and controversy remained undiminished; by the late 1920s he had largely renounced Fabian Society gradualism and often wrote and spoke favourably of dictatorships of the right and left—he expressed admiration for both Mussolini and Stalin. In the final decade of his life he made fewer public statements, but continued to write prolifically until shortly before his death, aged ninety-four, having refused all state honours, including the Order of Merit in 1946. Since Shaw's death scholarly and critical opinion has varied about his works, but he has regularly been rated as second only to Shakespeare among British dramatists; analysts recognise his extensive influence on generations of English-language playwrights. The word Shavian has entered the language as encapsulating Shaw's ideas and his means of expressing them.
