Ice breaking ships opening up passages to navigate the Arctic

04:25
Despite the historic deal climate change has already transformed parts of the world. Warmer temperatures have opened up frozen portions of the Arctic and giving energy giants another area to explore. But mapping those waters is a dangerous job. The elusive northwest passage connecting the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans is also opening up but that could lead to a real disaster. CCTV America's Sean Callebs explains.

#IICE2018 Chennai Interview, Kestuttis, Baltic Sticks, Lithuania

02:54
Indian Ice Cream Expo-IICE is a revolution within itself in the global ice cream industry. Previously India was at the bottom of the per capita consumption chart compared to most of the developed and developing countries in the world for ice creams. In past, India was not having adequate facilities in cold chain sector but due to constant efforts of the industry; big, medium and small manufacturers have put their efforts to create an environment where good quality ice creams can be delivered in consumer’s plate with most cost effective prices and world class quality. Today the consumption of ice creams in India has doubled from 200 ml to 400 ml in just 5 years of efforts which still is much lower than USA or China. IICE has helped the industry to come together to solve these common issues. It has provided a platform to their entire manufacturing community to come in direct contact of the global services and materials providers. Participants from Europe, USA, China and other parts of the globe have provided first-hand information to the manufactures back in India who never had such kind of exposures and interactions. Industry has targeted to further double its per capita consumption by 2022 from 400 ml to 800ml. On the other hand, the big brands such as Vadilal, Havmor, AMUL, Hatsun, Dairy Classic, Naturals, Scoops, Dinshaw, Creambell, Mother Dairy, Fun India Dairy etc used to have frequent visits to global events in search of newer trends for this industry but now they have reduced their visits because they now get entire solutions in IICE for the further development of their businesses. IICE has been traveling between major cities of the country from Delhi to Hyderabad, from Mumbai to Bangalore and Ahmedabad to Chennai. This has provided the industry an exposure within the country and now due to new contacts they can dream of making ice creams in Ahmedabad or Mumbai and supply to Chennai or vice versa. IICE is attracting manufactures from the neighbouring countries like UAE, Bangladesh, China, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, South East Asia, Saudi Arabia, Iran and other GCC countries and also from African nations, South America, Eastern Europe. They come to experience what they want for their business in IICE. IICE also provides Indian and global manufacturers of machinery and raw materials the opportunity to explore new sales territories. Exhibitors from all walks of ice cream industry call IICE a Mecca for ice cream industry for this part of the world. Cold Chain solution providers, display freezers, cold rooms, processing machinery, packaging machinery and materials, consultants, food safety services and all kinds of ingredients and raw material providers occupy the entire layout of the IICE. All these factors make Indian Ice Cream Expo a unique platform for Indian ice cream manufactures along with their counter parts coming from other parts of the world. And IICE also proves equally important for the allied segments mentioned above. Today, none in this industry can ignore IICE! We invite each one of you to join in this effort to make India a leading nation for ice cream consumption and manufacturing, thus A Mecca for entire ice cream world!!! Greenland icy waters

38:38
In this film I tell - in English - about the risk and the disastrous consequences that may be about to navigate the icy waters of Greenland in summer time !! All it takes is a single appropriately sized lump of ice to in the wrong place at the wrong time for the wrong ship in the summer in Greenland waters - and then we ship disaster with many deaths and a major marine pollution! Everything perhaps because the ship was not designed to withstand that collide with such a lump of ice by accident and maybe because the crew was not after trained to navigate the icy waters of Greenland in the summer! Screenplay and talk by Bjarne Rasmussen, www.iceguide.dk and http://www.iceguide.dk/IceguideENG.html Camera/editing: Christoffer Fritz Hadenfeldt Schrøder and Lars Hegnet, Aalborg Produktionsskole 2013.

Did Polar Ocean Challenge Use IceBreaker Escort Through Heavy Increasing Arctic Sea Ice (221)

09:07
Polar Ocean Challenge sailing vessel that traversed the Arctic to show no ice and global warming is in full swing, interestingly passed an area that required icebreaker escorts through at the same time as Serenity required icebreaker help and scout helicopters to look for open water. Arctic sea ice is on the increase 3 weeks early this year, and the AMO is turning negative which signals more sea ice growth. The State of Earth's Climate 2016 | Mini Ice Age 2015-2035 (257)

#IICE2018 Chennai Interview, SS Chauhan, Diamond Eng.

02:17
Chauhan is talking about services his company is is providing to the ice cream industry of India and his experience with the show. The second priority will be to get them some fuel and foodstuffs. Getting them food can be done, fuel depends on how close we can get. And as regards to the rescue of the personnel, it depends on the conditions that we find when we get there." 13. Wide shot of press conference 14. SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) Raul Benmuyen, Navy Captain: "This is not the time of the year to go to Antarctica. The time to go to the Antarctic finished in March or April for ordinary boats, the beginning of May (is) the absolute latest in the northernmost part. So we will be in an area of expanding ice shelf. The ice shelf is growing ten to twelve miles each week." 15. Laser pointing at chart 16. Wide shot of press conference STORYLINE: An Argentine ice-breaking ship, the Almirante Irizar, is due to leave from the port of Buenos Aires on Tuesday morning to help rescue 107 people aboard a German ship trapped by an ice drift in Antarctica. The Magdalena Oldendorff was travelling to Cape Town from the Novolazarevskaya station in northeast Antarctica when it encountered the ice drift and was forced to seek shelter in a local bay. The 79 Russian scientists and 28 crew members trapped on board are rationing food as they await the rescuers. At a press conference on board the Almirante Irizar the day before its departure, Argentine naval officials said the operation would be difficult due to the severe Antarctic winter. A Swedish ice-breaking ship, the Oden, and a South African supply boat are also taking part in the rescue attempt. The Oldendorff's owners requested that the Oden, Sweden's largest icebreaker, join the rescue operation in case the Argentinian boat fails to cut a path through the ice. If the rescue ships cannot reach the trapped vessel, two helicopters aboard the South African vessel, the Agulhas, will remove the scientists and nonessential crew members. Black Star Update April 30 2015

15:02
Week number thirteen of the current 2015 Earth Orbit Cycle relative to the Black Star shows a sharp increase in earthquake activity across the board very much like we saw last year for week thirteen of the 2014 Earth Orbit Cycle. Last year we an 8-mag quake event with a 7-mag event and six 6-magnitude earthquake events revealing a sharp seismic uptick in the transition from week 12 to week 13 highlighted in yellow with the designation “U” appearing in the chart indicating the Earth Change “Uptick” period. However, note carefully that the “N” was moved to a position in the chart a week later in the fourteenth week due to high seismicity that continued over a 19-day period forcing me to split the difference. See seismic chart in Terral's 2015 Newsletter Volume #17. Evidence from the 2014 Earth Orbit Cycle indicates that Earth may not be out of the seismic woods yet and more 6 and 7-magnitude earthquake events could be making ready to strike here in the near future over the course of the next couple of weeks. For now, the “N” has been placed in the seismic chart denoting the ‘Nearside-alignment’ Quake Event with the 7.8 Nepal Quake from April 25, 2015 apparently taking place a few days earlier than predicted. Remember that my prediction date for the 9.0 Fukushima Quake Event was expected for March 15, 2011, but the event took place on March 11th also a few days earlier than expected. My gut feeling says that we will see additional large-magnitude earthquake events along the Pacific Ocean/Ring of Fire in the coming weeks that force me to make this chart adjustment once again since the 2015 Earth Orbit Cycle Seismic Pattern is following the 2014 pattern so closely at this early stage. My attention is drawn to the big 6.2 Quake Event off the western Canada Coast (link) in the area between the Alaska and California quake swarms that could very well lead to the anticipated big linchpin quake event coming sooner rather than later. Additional earthquake activity between this big quake and Yellowstone (screenshot) points to a combination of tectonic and volcanic subterranean movement, which is one reason that this newsletter has so many articles with warnings about the bulging Yellowstone magma chamber and adjacent calderas. Now scientists say that Yellowstone is more than four times bigger than previously thought. http://www.science20.com/the_conversation/yellowstone_volcanic_system_four_times_bigger_than_thought-155081 “Seismologists have discovered a massive magma reservoir beneath the Yellowstone supervolcano in Wyoming, US, that suggests its volcanic system could be more than 5.6 times larger than was previously thought. Although it was already known that Yellowstone had one magma reservoir, located about 5-16km (3-10 miles) below the surface, the new study, published in Science, has revealed another, much larger reservoir sitting directly below the first, located around 20-50 km (12-30 miles) below the surface. This reservoir is thought to have a volume of around 46,000 cubic km – compared to a volume of around 10,000 cubic km for the shallow reservoir.” As predicted earlier from my research, scientists will continue finding out the Yellowstone super volcano is bigger and bigger, as seismic and volcanic activity across the region escalates with pressures shifting from Kamchatka, Russia across the Alaska Quake Swarm Area through to Yellowstone with activity on the uptick down through the California Quake Swarm Area down into Mexico. The area to watch for certain is the region between Alaska, the California Coast and the Yellowstone Super Volcano expected to be in the eye of the coming seismic and volcanic storm, until eventually we see increased activity spreading across the USA into the New Madrid Seismic Zone that erupts with a flurry of activity from time to time. Remember that there are no safe zones in the USA west of the Rocky Mountain Ridge and no safe zones east of the Mississippi River Basin with the best safe zone locations appearing in the south central USA and particularly in the Ozarks of northwestern Arkansas. Seven Days At Sea - Day 2

06:54
Day 2 Cave Exploring Snorkelling Whilst we had a bit of a hangover we planned our next day. The sea charts illustrated a bit of a cave and being the daring sort, we decided to explore it. So we headed out of Sivota and towards the cave. Along the way we passed a speedboat flying the Italian marque. One of the few things we were taught was that everyone on the sea is polite and will abide by the rights of way on the water. Everyone except the Italians who "own the water". Being part-Italian I hate to say that the stereotype was accurate. We creeped up to the cave as the charts said the water was very shallow and we didn't want to beech Lila. That plan went out the water somewhat when a tourist ferry came careering towards the cave close to the shore and then drove into the cave. That cave wasn't that deep nor high but it got right in there! We got closer with Lila and then sent the survey team first (Mark and I) who rowed up to the craggy edge and dragged Lil' Lila up the rocks to keep her from deflating from a sharp knock against a rock. Or being run over by another ferry. As we rowed in the feeling as the sky disappeared behind the cave mouth as we headed into the unknown was indescribable. Like being a child exploring except you just discovered America. The fact that we had looked at a map and said "Let's go there", managed to get there unhindered and not knowing what to expect when we got there. We were experiencing real freedom. From our survey we found that there were lots of little brown ball poo everywhere but no animals nor a route to the shore that we could see. It was great just watching Matt and Deek circle around waiting for us to return as it was impossible to anchor off the rocky coastline. We soon returned and circled with Lila whilst the others explored the cave. We soon took off and headed North for some anchorage. Without somewhere to sit stationary we always had to have someone on the helm and we wanted to relax for a bit and cooking on the move is the shortcut to sea-sickness. We found a sandy patch through the crystal clear water and anchored. The Survey team wasted no time in grabbing the snorkelling equipment, jumping off the starboard side and exploring the local area for indigenous life but it looked pretty barren. Upon returning to Lila, we noticed that we had parked atop a reef and had fish swimming all about our stern. There were about 50 sea bream and many other smaller fish. Before jumping back in, we wasted our loaf of bread feeding the fish and getting them to swarm the back of the yacht. We then jumped in and fanned out breadcrumbs in front of us whilst underwater and the bream et al were almost close enough to touch. After that we hot-footed it to Friskado which was very much a money port, as can be seen by the superyacht and an even bigger one rocked up later on. We didn't even dock there. We created a raft out of our yachts by tying them together and using land lines to tether us to land. We tried to shimmy across the landline but each of us just got dunked because we couldn't get the line taut enough. We did go back to Lila, dry off and dress up for a night out as we were told there was a nightclub. I think the local definition of nightclub is very different to my own. We did bump into the owners of the superyacht though. They kindly bought us drinks and then "forgot their Gold card." Great day all in all and a bit less erratic and more focused than day 1. Two amazing days out of two. We couldn't imagine there being anything else we could do that would be able to match these days. But you never know what the next journey may bring...

Q400 Flight BHX-JER Cockpit Preparation

35:08
Now we're moving away from systems presentation, I thought it would be useful to follow a standard Q400 flight to see how the various procedures and flight phases are carried out. So join me on BE501 from Birmingham to Jersey, starting with the preflight preparation and ending in a VOR approach onto runway 08 at EGJJ. Here we look at the cockpit preparation check, ensuring all systems are tested and initialised for departure and ending in the Cockpit Preparation Checklist.
