Экскурсия по отелю Coral Sea Sensatori Resort 5*

13:28
Battle of the Coral Sea 75th Commemoration: Derek Holyoake

The Battle of the Coral Sea was fought between combined United States and Royal Australian naval and air forces, and the Imperial Japanese navy. It was the world’s first sea battle between aircraft carriers. Literally ‘fought in the air’, it was also the first naval battle in which opposing ships neither saw nor fired on each other. After their success attacking Pearl Harbour and Darwin, the Japanese plotted to invade Port Moresby in New Guinea and to control supply lines between the USA and Australia in the Coral Sea, but their plans for Operation Mo Sakusen were intercepted by Allied codebreakers stationed in Melbourne. In early May 1942 two mighty naval fleets assembled in the Coral Sea, Japan’s in the north and the combined US and Australian fleet to the south. 8th May 1942: The Battle of the Coral Sea ends

02:48
The Coral Sea is situated off the northeast coast of Australia. Following Japan’s entry into the Second World War, the Imperial Japanese Navy sought to establish perimeter defences in the region to protect the Japanese empire and isolate Australia and New Zealand from their ally the United States. Japanese forces launched Operation MO, in which they planned to seize Port Moresby in New Guinea and Tulagi in the Solomon Islands, on 3 May 1942. However, the Allies had intercepted messages about the impending attack and launched a series of surprise airstrikes against the Japanese from the U.S. fleet carrier Yorktown. The Allied attack failed to stop the Japanese landings on Tulagi, but caused significant damage to the fleet that reduced its effectiveness in the second stage of the plan. Clearly aware of the presence of enemy aircraft carriers in the area, the Japanese consequently sought to locate and destroy the allied naval forces. On the morning of 7 May, Japanese carrier-based planes located and sank a U.S. destroyer and an oiler while American planes sank the light Japanese carrier Shōhō and a cruiser. The following day Japanese aircraft damaged the U.S. carriers Yorktown and Lexington, which was later scuttled. Meanwhile the Japanese carrier Shōkaku was heavily damaged and had to withdraw, while Zuikaku suffered large aircraft losses that excluded it from the Battle of Midway the following month. Consequently while Japan experienced a tactical victory in terms of the number of ships sunk, the Allies gained a strategic advantage as Japan was forced to abandon Operation MO.

Captain Rick Jacobs - "Battle of the Java Sea"

As part of the "Lunchbox Lecture" series, Navy Captain Rick Jacobs gives a lecture outlining one of the most decisive naval battles in the Pacific Theater during World War II, in which the Allies suffered a defeat at the hands of the Imperial Japanese Navy.
BATTLE OF THE CORAL SEA & BATTLE OF MIDWAY NEWSREEL WWII 27892

09:49
This Castle Films newsreel dates to 1942 and shows the dramatic developments in the war in the Pacific, where the U.S. Navy repelled a Japanese invasion fleet at the Battle of the Coral Sea and then decisively crushed the Japanese fleet at Midway. The film begins with footage of American troops on the move across the Pacific to Australia, where General Douglas MacArthur plans America's next move. Bombers are shown flying out of Port Moresby to harass the Japanese, and a crippled bomber lands with no gear. The city of Darwin, attacked by Japanese aircraft, is shown on defensive posture with camouflaged weapons in place. The Battle of the Coral Sea, fought during 4–8 May 1942, was a major naval battle in the Pacific Theater of World War II between the Imperial Japanese Navy and naval and air forces from the United States and Australia. The battle was the first action in which aircraft carriers engaged each other, as well as the first in which neither side's ships sighted or fired directly upon the other. In an attempt to strengthen their defensive positioning for their empire in the South Pacific, Japanese forces decided to invade and occupy Port Moresby in New Guinea and Tulagi in the southeastern Solomon Islands. The US learned of the Japanese plan through signals intelligence and sent two United States Navy carrier task forces and a joint Australian-American cruiser force, under the overall command of American Admiral Frank J. Fletcher, to oppose the Japanese offensive. On 3–4 May, Japanese forces successfully invaded and occupied Tulagi, although several of their supporting warships were surprised and sunk or damaged by aircraft from the US fleet carrier Yorktown. Now aware of the presence of US carriers in the area, the Japanese fleet carriers advanced towards the Coral Sea with the intention of finding and destroying the Allied naval forces. Beginning on 7 May, the carrier forces from the two sides exchanged airstrikes over two consecutive days. The first day, the US sank the Japanese light carrier Shōhō, while the Japanese sank a US destroyer and heavily damaged a fleet oiler (which was later scuttled). The next day, the Japanese fleet carrier Shōkaku was heavily damaged, the US fleet carrier Lexington was critically damaged (and was scuttled as a result), and the Yorktown was damaged. With both sides having suffered heavy losses in aircraft and carriers damaged or sunk, the two fleets disengaged and retired from the battle area. Because of the loss of carrier air cover, Inoue recalled the Port Moresby invasion fleet, intending to try again later. Although a tactical victory for the Japanese in terms of ships sunk, the battle would prove to be a strategic victory for the Allies for several reasons. The Battle of Midway was a crucial and decisive naval battle in the Pacific Theatre of World War II. Between 4 and 7 June 1942, only six months after Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor and one month after the Battle of the Coral Sea, the United States Navy under Admirals Chester Nimitz, Frank Jack Fletcher, and Raymond A. Spruance decisively defeated an attacking fleet of the Imperial Japanese Navy under Admirals Isoroku Yamamoto, Chuichi Nagumo, and Nobutake Kondo near Midway Atoll, inflicting devastating damage on the Japanese fleet that proved irreparable.[9] Military historian John Keegan called it "the most stunning and decisive blow in the history of naval warfare." It was Japan's first naval defeat since the Battle of Shimonoseki Straits in 1863. The Japanese operation, like the earlier attack on Pearl Harbor, sought to eliminate the United States as a strategic power in the Pacific, thereby giving Japan a free hand in establishing its Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere. The Japanese hoped that another demoralizing defeat would force the U.S. to capitulate in the Pacific War and thus ensure Japanese dominance in the Pacific. The Battle of Midway, in combination with the Soviet victory against Germany at the Battle of Stalingrad some months later, are considered by some to be the turning points of the Second World War in favor of Allied victory. 7 Facts about the Coral Sea Islands

The Coral Sea Islands Territory is an external territory of Australia which comprises a group of small and mostly uninhabited tropical islands and reefs in the Coral Sea. The only inhabited island is Willis Island. The territory covers 780,000 km2, most of which is ocean, extending east and south from the outer edge of the Great Barrier Reef. 2. Willis Island is the only permanently inhabited island in the Coral Sea Islands Territory. The Willis Island weather monitoring station was established in 1921 and equipped with a radio transmitter in order to provide a cyclone early warning service for Queensland. There are usually four weather observers. 3. In 2004, the Gay and Lesbian Kingdom of the Coral Sea Islands was declared as a sovereign state as a symbolic political protest by a group of gay rights activists based in Australia in response to the Australian government's refusal to recognise same-sex marriages. The Kingdom was dissolved on 17 November 2017 following the decision made by the Australian people to legalize gay marriage. 4. Australia's Coral Sea is one of the last places on Earth where ocean giants—sharks, tunas, marlin—still abound. Yet less than 1 percent of the Coral Sea is permanently protected from fishing, oil and gas exploration and seabed mining. 5. The Great Barrier Reef, a part of the Coral Sea just off of Australia’s northeastern Queensland coast, is the world’s largest coral reef. The reef is one of the seven natural wonders of the world, can be seen from space and is larger than the Great Wall of China. 6. There are about 30 separate reefs and atolls, twelve being wholly submerged or drying only during low tide, and 18 others with a total of about 51 islets and cays (18 alone on the atoll Lihou Reef), some of which are vegetated. 7. The Battle of the Coral Sea, fought from 4 to 8 May 1942, was a major naval battle between the Imperial Japanese Navy and naval and air forces from the United States and Australia, taking place in the Pacific Theatre of World War II. The battle is historically significant as the first action in which aircraft carriers engaged each other, as well as the first in which neither side's ships sighted or fired directly upon the other. Silent Hunter 4 Naval Battle of Coral Sea. Allied Fleet. Batalla del Mar del Coral. Flota Aliada.

24:52
The Battle of the Coral Sea, fought during 4–8 May 1942, was a major naval battle in the Pacific Theater of World War II between the Imperial Japanese Navy and naval and air forces from the United States and Australia. The battle was the first action in which aircraft carriers engaged each other, as well as the first in which neither side's ships sighted or fired directly upon the other. This scenario ignores the allied destroyers that accompained the Task Forces to simplify it.

Order of Battle | Rising Sun | Coral Sea | Part 1

20:33
Let's Play Order of Battle - Rising Sun Campaign The ultimate goal of Imperial Japan is to become the dominant power in the western Pacific. In December 1941, a carefully planned strategy is set in motion through a series of major offensives, including a carrier strike on the US naval base at Pearl Harbor. The shock of these surprise attacks is intended to cripple the Allied forces, giving the Japanese army and navy the time needed to establish total hegemony over their opponents. Rising Sun puts the player in command of the Imperial Navy - built around a powerful fleet of battleships and aircraft carriers, as well as the Imperial Army - hardened from years of war with the Chinese. Managing the limited resources available to build a well-balanced force of unique units such as the lethal A6M Zero fighter aircraft and the mighty Yamato battleship class will be the key to a successful outcome of the Japanese offensive. From the beginning of the campaign, starting with the air raid against Pearl Harbor, the initiative lays in the hands of Japan, but as Allied resistance stiffens, only a commander able to achieve decisive victories can keep up the momentum and fulfill Japan's imperial dreams. Including key historical battles, the "what-if" invasion of Australia and many unique Japanese weapon designs and prototypes, Rising Sun offers a unique experience set in the Pacific Theatre of WW2.
