Getting to the ideal body fat percentage for males requires hard work, dedication and a structured plan that you can work on with accountability. First off, I want to clear up any confusion you might have about BMI and Body fat percentage. These two are often confused as measuring the same thing. Basically, BMI is a ratio figure between your height and weight. To get your BMI result using the metric system, you simply divide your weight in kilograms by your height in meters, then divide the result by your height again. For example: a 73kg man who is 1.78m tall would do the below: 73 / 1.78 / 1.78 = 23.04 BMI Using pounds and inches, you can use the following formula: [weight (lb) / height (in) / height (in)] x 703 As you can see from the formulae above, there is nothing factored for age or amount of body fat. Therefore, a 73kg man could have 10% or 30% body fat and still fall in the exact same BMI range. In reality, they are both very different in terms of physical appearance and most likely physical health. Body fat percentage is exactly what it suggests. It’s the amount of body fat you have on your body. This is obviously completely exclusive to each person, so is a much better indicator than BMI. Low body fat will show more muscle definition so it will depend on what your goals are and help you reach an ideal body fat percentage for males. As more and more people are starting to take action to improve their health, it’s helpful to have a few standards to which to compare yourself in order to see how you’re doing. One error many males make is mistaking their “health” to be how they appear on the outside. While a high level of muscle mass definitely does represent a high fitness level, health encompasses much more than that. The 5 Following signs are good guidelines to use to determine where you stand and if there are any areas upon which you need to improve. 1. Can You run a mile in under 15 minutes? :: To test your cardiovascular fitness, on the other hand, try a one-mile run. If it takes you longer than 15 minutes to complete, you’re below average in your fitness level. The faster you can run the mile and the lower your heart rate after running, the better physical conditioning you’re in. 2. Can You perform 20 pushups at a Single Time? :: One great health standard is how many pushups you can perform in a row without rest while maintaining proper form. Performing 20 straight full pushups, maybe even during a lunchtime workout at the office, is a good benchmark of what a typical male should be able to complete. If you come in at less than this, it might be time to devote a little more effort to your strength-training routine. 3. Is Your urine is the colour Of Yellow? :: While it may be the last thing you want to do, checking the colour of your urine after you use the washroom is a great way to tell if you’re hydrated. If your urine is a deep yellow colour, you’re not taking in enough clear fluids. 4. Do You have firm pink nails? :: While you’d never think your fingernails are a sign of good health, they are very telling of your current health condition. You ideally want them to be pink in colour, firm to the touch and have a smooth surface. If you have white spots or a few ripples, it may be time to speak to your doctor, as this could point to diabetes. If your nails are yellow, this can indicate respiratory disease, so take care immediately. 5. Do You have a resting heart rate of around 70 bpm? Do check to look at is your resting heart rate. Ideally, your resting heart rate should be around 70 beats per minute or lower. If it’s higher than this, take it as a sign it may be time to devote a little more time to your cardiovascular training to make your heart stronger and more efficient. Thanks For Watching My Video. Gaining weight as a skinny person is not easy. It is frustrating to eat a lot but still not gain weight. One thing that skinny people do not know is that they have a fast metabolism which makes it hard for them to gain weight. A fast metabolism means that your body burns all the calories you eat. As a skinny person trying to gain weight, you have to eat a lot more than your metabolism can handle. Naturally, creating a caloric surplus in your body will make you gain weight. Probably you are skinny due to lack of knowledge of what it takes to gain weight. Below are top five tips that will help you gain weight: 5. Eat more food The leading trick to gain weight is to consume more calories than your body can burn. The mistake that most people do is to go by their feelings. Your metabolism could be much faster than you think. You need to know how much calories your body needs for you to gain weight. Keep track of everything you eat to know how much calories you consume every day. You might overestimate your calorie intake if you go with your feelings. In the first week, you will have difficulties eating all the required calories for you to gain weight. After maybe two weeks, your stomach will stretch and start getting hungry more often. 4. Track your progress Weigh yourself every week to check how you are progressing. Malnourished people will gain weight quickly in the first week due to increased bowel content and weight from the extra water as well. Continue eating the same if you gain weight; if you do not gain weight, you will have to keep adding more calories to your daily intake every week until you gain weight. You should note that the food that makes you gain the first 10kg will not make you gain the next 10kg. A skinny person with less muscle mass burns fewer calories than one with a bigger muscle mass. Thus, a person with no muscles will require fewer calories to gain weight as opposed to a more masculine person. 3. Eat more protein Protein is necessary for muscle building and recovery. The following are the best protein sources for gaining weight: whole eggs, chicken breast, tuna, cheese, and steaks. For you to build your body muscles, you will require at least 1g of proteins per 1lb of body-weight per day. However, you should have in mind that some people will not gain weight or muscles without gaining fat as well. 2. Eat more meals You have been eating little food for years. Thus your stomach is small. If you are required to take at least 1500 calories a day for you to gain weight, it will be easier if you take 300 calories in 5 meals than having 500 calories in 3 meals. Create yourself a bigger eating window. With eight sleeping hours, you are left with 16 hours to eat. Make a schedule of how you will have the five meals in those 16 hours. 1. Training Lifting weights is good for people trying to gain weight since it triggers the body to build muscle mass. If you do not train, the excess calories that do not burn will be stored as fat around your waistline. Your goal is to be muscular and not chubby. Therefore you will need to train. Remember, the more you train, the more calories you will burn and therefore the more calories you will require creating a caloric surplus. These drugs have approved therapeutic claims. For example, paracetamol is a drug given to bring down the body temperature in fever. Ascorbic acid is indicated for the treatment of scurvy. Iron supplements are given to treat mild cases of anemia. Herbal supplements are not classified as drugs but as dietary supplements. The main difference is that they do not have approved therapeutic claims unlike in the case of drugs. Moreover, dietary supplements could either contain vitamins, minerals, herbals, or amino acids, all aimed to add to or supplement the diet of an individual. They are not intended to be taken alone as a substitute to any food or medicine. Most of the manufactured medicines we now have once came from animals and plants. Through the years, chemists isolated the life-saving or life-curing components and separated them from the harmful ones. This lead to the further drug research and drug development that lead to the production of a different variety of drugs for many ailments and conditions from synthetic sources. But still we have semi-synthetic drugs, as well as drug that more or less approximate more natural composition. Since herbal supplements are made from a mixture of crude herbs reduced into powder or gel form, and later on packaged as tablets and capsules, there is a possibility that life-threatening or at least body chemistry-altering components are still present, thus the expression of concern from the medical community. Is there a growing concern with the use of herbal supplements? Yes. With the rising popularity of using and consuming anything herbal or organic is the proliferation of fake herbal supplements that threaten to endanger lives. If that's the case, then why are herbal supplements given drug administration approvals? One way of ensuring the safety of the people is to have all candidate drugs, food, drinks, and dietary supplements registered with the proper authority. Otherwise, they would pose more risk with these things being sold in the black market for a hefty sum. We could ensure the quality and safety of herbal supplements if they get proper classification with the food and drug administration. Moreover, people may be able to file the proper complaints in the event a worsening of health condition is proven to be linked to the use of a particular herbal supplement. Is using herbal supplements worth the risk? Yes. It cannot be discounted that many who have tried herbal supplements experienced an improvement in their health—whether this is due to the herbals themselves or due to a placebo effect, as long as they do not worsen the condition of an individual, then using them is worth the risk. But of course, certain things must be considered before taking those herbal supplements: Your doctor knows best. First of all, clear your condition with your doctor. Ask him/her if taking a particular herbal supplement is safe given your health condition. People with heart, liver, or kidney trouble or malfunction, are usually not advised to take these, or at the minimum is to take these herbals in minimum amounts. All substances pass through the liver and kidney to be processed and filtered respectively. Kava, which is used to relieve people from stress, has been pulled out from the Canadian, Singaporean, and German markets because it contains substances that cause liver damage. Certain herbals such as Ephedra used for losing weight, contains chemicals with heart-inducing effects that can increase heart rate, which in turn can exhaust the heart and cause heart attacks in several documented cases by the American Medical Association. "What should I eat" or "How much should I weigh?" Today I'll be answering how much you should weigh and the rest of my videos will discuss the more complicated issue of what you should eat. I made this the first video in my What Matters for Healthy Weight Loss Series because I thought you should know how much you should weigh before you try to lose weight. I want to give people a target weight range to shoot for, so that I don't have a bunch of people that are already at a healthy weight trying to lose weight in an unhealthy way. I know our culture's version of beauty is sickly skinny and air brushed to some twisted version of ideal. I beg you to put your health first. Before I get into anything else, I want to say that if you are overweight, you don't have to get into the ideal body weight range to make a difference in your health. For heavier people, losing just 10% of your body weight can make a huge difference in your health. Don't let perfect be the enemy of good -- Just because it may not be realistic for you to reach and ideal weight, you can still do a lot for your health. So lets get to answering how much you should weigh. Several factors play into how much you should weigh like your age, gender, height, muscle mass, frame size, and current weight. Height in Meters^2 1. Age 2. Gender 3. Height 4. Muscle Mass 5. Frame Size 6. Current Weight The most popular indicator for showing what a healthy weight is Body Mass Index or BMI. BMI is a ratio of your height to weight using the following equation. BMI = Weight in Kilograms (Height in meters)^2 BMI equals weight in kilograms over height in meters squared. Here is a BMI chart so that you can check your BMI. For adults a healthy BMI is considered from 18.5 to 25. Under 18.5 is considered underweight, 25-29.9 is overweight, and 30 is considered obese. A lot of people complain that BMI isn't accurate because we know someone that clearly isn't unhealthy and overweight but is classified as overweight by BMI. And they are right, BMI isn't perfect because it doesn't account for age, gender, muscle mass, and frame size. It only uses height and weight so it shouldn't be used for the individual, for you -- however, when looking at large groups of people and collecting thousand of BMIs, it is a good indicator of body fat. So I just said that BMI isn't good for the individual, so how do you know what a healthy weight is for you? The best way to determine a healthy weight for you is to calculate your ideal body weight. The equation for ideal body weight takes weight, height, gender, and frame size into account so it's much better than BMI. First I want you to get an idea of your frame size. Wrap your thumb and middle finger around the top part of your wrist, just above the bump. If you can't get your fingers around your wrist all the way, you have a large frame size. If you can barely touch your thumb and finger, you have a medium frame size. If your fingers overlap, then you have a small frame size. Now that you know your frame size, calculate your ideal body weight with the following equation: Women: 100 lbs + (5 lbs x height in inches over 5 feet tall) +- 10% Men: 106 + (6 lbs x height in inches over 5 feet tall) +- 10% So for example, a 5'5' woman has an ideal body weight of 125 lbs plus or minus 10 percent, which comes out to a weight of 112-138 lbs. If this woman has a small frame size, a healthy weight might be closer to the lower range of that weight range. A larger frame would be at the high end of the weight range. A medium frame size closer to the middle. Also, if this woman was muscular, like an athlete, she would be healthy on the higher end of this weight range or even slightly above this weight range because the extra weight is muscle. A woman over the age of 65, especially over the age of 75, would be healthier at the high end of this weight range because older people have less muscle mass and if they carry a little extra weight, then it's actually healthier because it protects them from losing as much muscle mass as they age. Try not to get attached to one specific number. A healthy weight is always a range. I hope this has given you a little more insight into what a healthy weight is for you! I would like to say that body fat percentage and amount of muscle mass are also very useful because it is possible for you to be at a healthy weight and still have too much body fat, but they are hard to determine because more of the easy tests like the scales that tell you your bodyfat percentage aren't very accurate. If you do have access to accurate body fat testing, here is a reference table for body fat percentages:

This has led to an interrelation of human fitness and attractiveness which has mobilized global fitness and fitness equipment industries. Regarding specific function, fitness is attributed to person who possess significant aerobic or anaerobic ability, i.e. strength or endurance. A holistic definition of fitness is described by Greg Glassman in the CrossFit journal as an increased work capacity across broad times and modal domains; mastery of several attributes of fitness including strength, endurance, power, speed, balance and coordination and being able to improve the amount of work done in a given time with any of these domains. A well rounded fitness program will improve a person in all aspects of fitness, rather than one, such as only cardio/respiratory endurance or only weight training. A comprehensive fitness program tailored to an individual typically focuses on one or more specific skills, and on age- or health-related needs such as bone health. Many sources also cite mental, social and emotional health as an important part of overall fitness. This is often presented in textbooks as a triangle made up of three points, which represent physical, emotional, and mental fitness. Physical fitness can also prevent or treat many chronic health conditions brought on by unhealthy lifestyle or aging. Working out can also help some people sleep better and possibly alleviate some mood disorders in certain individuals. Developing research has demonstrated that many of the benefits of exercise are mediated through the role of skeletal muscle as an endocrine organ. That is, contracting muscles release multiple substances known as myokines which promote the growth of new tissue, tissue repair, and various anti-inflammatory functions, which in turn reduce the risk of developing various inflammatory diseases.
