Debian 9 "Stretch" KDE Plasma Installation + Guest Additions on Oracle VirtualBox [2017]

12:07
This video tutorial shows Debian 9 "Stretch" KDE Plasma installation on Oracle VirtualBox step by step. This tutorial is also helpful to install Debian 9 on physical computer or laptop hardware. We also install Guest Additions on Debian 9 KDE for better performance and usability features such as Automatic Resizing Guest Display, Shared Folder, Seamless Mode and Shared Clipboard, Improved Performance and Drag and Drop. Steps: 1- Create Virtual Machine on Oracle VirtualBox 2- Start Debian GNU/Linux 9 KDE Plasma (Stretch) Installation 3- Debian 9 Root Password Issue: Recover Root Password 4- Install Guest Additions 5- Test Guest Additions Features: Automatic Resizing Guest Display and Shared Clipboard Debian GNU/Linux 9 (Stretch) New Features and Improvements Debian 9 Stretch has been released two years after the last major release Debian 8 codenamed Jessie. In Debian 9 "Stretch", the default MySQL variant is now MariaDB. The replacement of packages for MySQL 5.5 or 5.6 by the MariaDB 10.1 variant will happen automatically upon upgrade. Firefox and Thunderbird return to Debian with the release of "Stretch", and replace their debranded versions Iceweasel and Icedove, which were present in the archive for more than 10 years. Debian 9 comes with over 51,000 binary packages, a new record for a stable Debian release. Debian Website: https://www.debian.org/ Download Debian 9 KDE Plasma Live Install ISO Image: https://www.debian.org/CD/live/ What is KDE Desktop? The KDE Community is an international technology team dedicated to creating a free and user-friendly computing experience, offering an advanced graphical desktop, a wide variety of applications for communication, work, education and entertainment and a platform to easily build new applications upon. In this regard, the resources provided by KDE make it a central development hub and home for many popular applications and projects like Calligra Suite, Krita, digiKam, and many others. KDE Website: https://www.kde.org/ VirtualBox Guest Additions Features The Guest Additions offer the following features below: - Improved Video Support: While the virtual graphics card which VirtualBox emulates for any guest operating system provides all the basic features, the custom video drivers that are installed with the Guest Additions provide you with extra high and non-standard video modes as well as accelerated video performance. - Mouse Pointer Integration: This provides with seamless mouse support. A special mouse driver would have to be installed in the guest OS, which would exchange information with the actual mouse driver on the host. The special mouse driver then allows users to control the guest mouse pointer. - Time Synchronization: With the Guest Additions installed, VirtualBox can ensure that the guest's system time is better synchronized with that of the host. - Shared Folders: These provide an easy way to exchange files between the host and the guest. - Seamless Windows: With this feature, the individual windows that are displayed on the desktop of the virtual machine can be mapped on the host's desktop, as if the underlying application was actually running on the host. - Shared Clipboard: With the Guest Additions installed, the clipboard of the guest operating system can optionally be shared with your host operating system. Debian 8.8 LXDE Desktop Installation + Guest Additions on Oracle VirtualBox [2017]

07:48
This video tutorial shows Debian 8.8 LXDE Desktop installation on Oracle VirtualBox step by step. This tutorial is also helpful to install Debian 8.8 on physical computer or laptop hardware. We also install Guest Additions on Debian 8.8 LXDE for better performance and usability features: Automatic Resizing Guest Display, Shared Folder, Seamless Mode and Shared Clipboard, Improved Performance and Drag and Drop. Steps: 1- Create Virtual Machine on Oracle VirtualBox 2- Start Debian 8.8 LXDE Desktop Installation 3- Install Guest Additions 4- Test Guest Additions Features: Automatic Resizing Guest Display and Shared Clipboard Debian 8.8 New Features and Improvements Debian 8.8 mainly adds corrections for security problems to the stable release, along with a few adjustments for serious problems. Security advisories were already published separately and are referenced where available. Those who frequently install updates from security.debian.org won't have to update many packages and most updates from security.debian.org are included in this update. Debian 8.8 is not a new version of Debian. It’s just a Debian 8 image with the latest updates of some of the packages. So, if you’re running a Debian 8 installation with all the latest updates installed, you don’t need to do anything. Debian Website: https://www.debian.org/ What is LXDE Desktop? LXDE, which stands for Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment, is a desktop environment which is lightweight and fast. It is designed to be user friendly and slim, while keeping the resource usage low. LXDE uses less RAM and less CPU while being a feature rich desktop environment. Unlike other tightly integrated desktops LXDE strives to be modular, so each component can be used independently with few dependencies. This makes porting LXDE to different distributions and platforms easier. LXDE Website: http://lxde.org/ Hope you found it informative and useful. Any questions or comments are welcomed. Arch Linux uses a rolling release model, such that a regular system update is all that is needed to obtain the latest Arch software. The installation images released by the Arch team are simply up-to-date snapshots of the main system components. The default install provides a solid base that enables users to create a custom installation. In addition, the Arch Build System (ABS) provides a way to easily build new packages, modify the configuration of stock packages, and share these packages with other users via the Arch Linux user repository. Arch Linux Website: https://www.archlinux.org/ Download Arch Linux ISO: https://www.archlinux.org/download/ Arch Linux Minimum System Requirements Arch Linux should run on any x86_64-compatible machine with a minimum of 512 MB RAM. A basic installation with all packages from the base group should take less than 800 MB of disk space. As the installation process needs to retrieve packages from a remote repository, a working internet connection is required. What is GNOME Desktop? GNOME is a desktop environment that is composed entirely of free and open-source software. GNOME was originally an acronym for GNU Network Object Model Environment. Its target operating system is Linux, but it is also supported on most derivatives of BSD. GNOME is developed by the GNOME Project. How to Install Oracle's Java in Linux

02:16
Hello YouTube, it's TheLinuxNoob here. Today I'm going to show you the easiest way on how to install Oracle's version of Java in any Debian based Linux distrobution. Such as Ubuntu, or Linux Mint. The first thing you want to do, is enter this command in the terminal: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/java After that, press enter. What this does, is it adds Oracle's repository to your system so you can install Java straight from the terminal. Now you need to update your repositories. You do that by entering: sudo apt-get update After you have updated all of your repositories, now you can install Java. Now you just have to enter: sudo apt-get install oracle-java7-installer Now you'll be prompted with a message, press enter, now press the left arrow key, and press enter again. The terminal will run for a while, and when it's complete you can exit out. I hope this tutorial helped everyone out. I remember when I first started out on Linux, no one had a tutorial on how to do this the proper way.

Getting Started With Vagrant On Ubuntu 16.04

10:59
Hashi Corp's Vagrant application is a very useful tool for developers and devops alike. It hugely speeds and and simplifies the process of creating a virtualized development environment In this video we will go over finding Vagrant in the package repositories, using the Vagrant Atlas, a brief overview of a Vagrantfile, and creating a new Vagrant box from scratch. Installing and setting up Vagrant on Ubuntu or Fedora is easy because it's in the default repositories. Getting setup with Vagrant on openSUSE is a bit more involved because it is not located in the default repositories. ⬇︎Social Links ⬇︎ ✔︎ My Website: http://www.egee.io ✔︎ Twitter: https://twitter.com/egee_irl ✔︎ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/egee_irl/ ---- ⬇︎ System Specs ⬇︎ ✔︎ OS: Ubuntu 16.04: http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop ✔︎ Motherboard:MSI A88XM Gaming: http://amzn.to/29OQeP6 ✔︎ CPU: A10-7850k: http://amzn.to/29rmTtB ✔︎ GPU: R7 360: http://amzn.to/29tLj4A ✔︎ RAM: Kingston HyperX 8gb: http://amzn.to/29SiRHP ✔︎ SSD: Samsung 850 EVO: http://amzn.to/29BABbA ✔︎ HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm: http://amzn.to/29SjfpI ✔︎ Input: Steam Controller: http://amzn.to/29ufZmo ✔︎ Capture Device: Elgato Game Capture HD60: http://amzn.to/2aiPxup

Fallout From FreeNas ~ Headless Unifi Controler VM

37:19
As the fallout from FreeNas Corral contrinues, this is the first long tutorial geared towards moving away from FreeNas docker into a VM mode. Bellow please find all the documentation I used in creating this video. STEP 1 JAVA 1. Add a "contrib" component to /etc/apt/sources.list, for example: # Debian 8 "Jessie" deb http://httpredir.debian.org/debian/ jessie main contrib 2. Update the list of available packages and install the java-package package: # apt-get update && apt-get install java-package && exit 3. Download the desired Java JDK/JRE binary distribution (Oracle). Choose tar.gz archives or self-extracting archives, do not choose the RPM! 4. Use java-package to create a Debian package, for example: $ make-jpkg jdk-8u51-linux-x64.tar.gz 5. Install the binary package created: $ su # dpkg -i oracle-java8-jdk_8u51_amd64.deb __ On Linux you can now use Oracle Java instead of OpenJDK (if desired). When using Oracle Java you may need to define the JAVA_HOME location on your Debian/Ubuntu installation. To do this you need to create a default file to define the path. This method is persistent across controller upgrades. Something like the following will work for Oracle Java (change JAVA_HOME path as needed): echo "JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/jvm/java-8-oracle" | sudo tee /etc/default/unifi You can no longer manage/control UniFi VoIP devices from the UniFi controller. Please use the UniFi VoIP controller for UVP products. The latest release as the time of this post is found HERE. You cannot re-use a VLAN ID for dynamic VLAN if it is set as a static value for another SSID on the same AP. So, if I have a SSID set to use VLAN 10, I cannot use VLAN ID 10 for RADIUS controlled VLAN users as those users will not get an IP. Cloud Access feature in this release is not supported on Linux/ARMv6 architecture (for exmaple, Raspberry Pi 1). If you have problem starting controller on this platform, please remove the native library: sudo rm /usr/lib/unifi/lib/native/Linux/armhf/libubnt_webrtc_jni.so STEP 2 REPOSITORIES FOR UNIFI & MONGO DB Add /etc/apt/sources.list.d/100-ubnt.list (or edit /etc/apt/sources.list). The 'stable' source is considered a floating version, and still valid. But if you wish to stay with a specific release branch, then you must specify it in the source line (for example, for UniFi v5 you would use the 'unifi5' source).  deb http://www.ubnt.com/downloads/unifi/debian unifi5 ubiquiti 2. Add the GPG Keys: # for Ubiquiti sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv 06E85760C0A52C50 # or over HTTP by using hkp://keyserver.ubuntu.com:80 # install/upgrade unifi-controller sudo apt-get install unifi 4. (Optional) This step may not be required, depending on the Linux distro you have. If your distro does not come with MongoDB, and it's not available in their repo, then please see the MongoDB installation guide. You can find the latest installation guide for Ubuntu HERE, and Debian HERE. Mongo 3 may not work reliably with the backup function of UniFi, so keep this in mind when updating Mongo. Mongo 2 is preferred at this time. sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv 7F0CEB10 sudo apt-key adv --keyserver hkp://keyserver.ubuntu.com:80 --recv 7F0CEB10 deb http://downloads-distro.mongodb.org/repo/debian-sysvinit dist 10gen sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install mongodb-org http://downloads-distro.mongodb.org/repo/debian-sysvinit/dists/dist/10gen/binary-amd64/mongodb-org_2.6.12_amd64.deb apt-get install -y mongodb-org=2.6.9 mongodb-org-server=2.6.9 mongodb-org-shell=2.6.9 mongodb-org-mongos=2.6.9 mongodb-org-tools=2.6.9 SETTING UP STATIC IP DEBIAN Network configuration I will do manual configuration with root credentials of the network config file, which is the responsible for the IP information in my debian system. The file name is /etc/network/interfaces I will first make backup of my original file as /etc/network/interfaces.bak and then proceed for the changes /etc/network/interfaces mv /etc/network/interfaces /etc/network/interfaces.bak nano /etc/network/interfaces I will change  the value like this auto lo iface lo inet loopback #My IP description # IPv4 address iface eth0 inet static address 192.168.0.100 netmask 255.255.255.0 network 192.168.0.0 broadcast 192.168.0.255 gateway 192.168.0.1 For IPv-6 You just need to add the entires below the segment as nano /etc/network/interfaces [...] #IPv6 address iface eth0 inet6 static address 2001:db8::c0ca:1eaf netmask 64 gateway 2001:db8::1ead:ed:beef DNS configuration DNS can be added in the file /etc/resolv.conf  nano /etc/resolv.conf nameserver 8.8.8.8 nameserver 8.8.4.4

How to configure Apt update to use TOR Network mirrors in Debian 9.0 (stretch)

21:33
CORRECTION: when adding the TOR repositories use "stretch" instead of "jessie" when running Debian 9.0! The Crypto Dad walks you through the preliminary steps of increasing the network security and reducing the network footprint of your secure system. Now that you have your secure Debian system installed (see below), there are a few things we need to do to configure our base system. We can then move on to installing Virtual Box and Whonix. These steps are taken from the anoymous guide which can be found here: https://anonguide.cyberguerrilla.org NOTE: BEFORE FOLLOWING THIS GUIDE, MAKE SURE THAT THE JURISDICTION THAT YOU LIVE IN DOES NOT HAVE ANY LEGAL CONSEQUENCE FOR CONNECTING TO THE TOR NETWORK! We need to be the superuser to perform the following steps 1. The first step is to set the clock to run on UTC time. We use the following command: dpkg-reconfigure tzdata We then choose “None of the above” and then choose “UTC” 2. Second we install and configure the firewall: apt install ufw and then we edit the before.rules config file with” nano /etc/ufw/before.rules press LEFT-CTRL + W and type “icmp” You will want to comment out the lines for all of the icmp codes press LEFT=CTRL + X and choose “Y” to save and then “enter” next type “ufw enable” to start the firewall. 3. Next we will install the tools and configuration files that will allow us to use Tor services when running updates and installing software. First we install the following programs with: apt install tor apt-transport-tor after this we should backup our sources.list file with: cp sources.list sources.list.bak we can now edit the sources.list file with: nano /etc/apt/sources.list we can use “LEFT-CTRL + K” multiple times to delete lines until the file is empty. Next we will paste in the following lines: deb tor+http://vwakviie2ienjx6t.onion/debian stretch main contrib deb tor+http://vwakviie2ienjx6t.onion/debian stretch-updates main contrib deb tor+http://sgvtcaew4bxjd7ln.onion/debian-security stretch/updates main contrib then we press “LEFT-CTRL + X” and type “Y” to save 4. We then disable Time satmps witht the two following commands: “echo "net.ipv4.tcp_timestamps = 0" (left angle bracket..see video) /etc/sysctl.d/tcp_timestamps.conf” “sysctl -p /etc/sysctl.d/tcp_timestamps.conf” 5. finally we will diable the IPv6 Protocol by editing the GRUB file nano /etc/default/grub edit the line that says ‘GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=”quiet”’ to say ‘GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT= “ipv6.disable=1 quiet”’ then we press “LEFT-CTRL + X” and type “Y” to save after that we run “update-grub” and that is it! We can run apt update to test out our new configuration. If you want to install the base system, you should follow my previous videos: This configuration is designed to give us a secure and private operating system. From here we can add and configure additional privacy and anonymity tools such as Tor, Whonix and VPNs. What you will need: 1. Computer (Laptop or desktop) 2. Internet connection (wired preferred) 3. Installer Media (CD-ROM or Flash Drive) 4. SSD Hard Drive 5. USB Flash Drive (small profile) 6. Time and Patience You can find the other parts of this tutorial here: Intro: (overview and gathering materials) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_-19EyKdLs&t=180s Part 1: (Initial set-up and format encrypted drive) here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=etzJAG_H5F8 Part 2: (partition encrypted drive and download software form mirrors) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJdBIigQcVw Part 3: (install Grub boot-loader and finish installation) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JyA4owRVUls Part 4: (Creating key file and moving it to boot drive) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=upOqR4HPi60 Part 5: (removing pass-phrase key and shredding copy of key-file on the hard drive) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APjHjCUtRT0 Here is the website where you can download the latest version of Debian Linux https://www.debian.org/ The software for writing the installer to a boot-able flash drive and can be found here: Win32 Disk Imager https://sourceforge.net/projects/win32diskimager/ If you prefer to write your installer image to a CD-ROM, I would highly recommend Power ISO https://www.poweriso.com/ Donate Bitcoin: 1JBxwXG8P6PYKKsrHKzQduM8s8RoV3dnjr
