This calculus video tutorial provides a basic introduction into the product rule for derivatives. It explains how to find the derivative of a function that contains two factors multiplied to each other. It also explains how to use the product rule to find the derivative of a function with 3 factors. This video contains plenty of examples and practice problems.

A nice little notation for taking derivatives of products of functions is introduced in this video which is intended for a Calculus 1 audience. This is based on the article: R. Gardner, A Useful Notation for Rules of Differentiation, The College Journal of Mathematics, 24(4) (1993) 351-352; reprinted in The Calculus Collection: A Resource for AP and Beyond, pages 257-58, edited by C. Diefenderfer and R. Nelsen, The Mathematical Association of America, 2010.

Using the chain and product rules together to find a derivative and then reducing to find zeros by factoring our greatest common factor

DrCraigMcBridePhD

In Calculus, Product rule formula is used when you have to find the derivatives of products of two or more function. When three functions in multiplication, and we have to find it's derivative, then we can find it's derivative one by one.
For example :
F(x) = u •v•w
And we have to find it's derivative
Then, f'(x) =( v•w•u') + (u•w•v') + (u•v•w')
Also, know when to use product rule vs chain rule, we tried to cover product rule problems with simple product rule formula (calculus).

How to use the chain rule when taking derivatives. We go through some examples in this free math video tutorial by Mario's Math Tutoring. We discuss 2 methods for using the chain rule. The first method involves using a u-substitution and the second method shown is a quicker shortcut you can use.
0:25 What is the Chain Rule and How To Use
0:41 Example 1 y=(3x-2)^3 Take Derivative Using a U Substitution
2:16 Shortcut for Chain Rule
2:56 Example 2 Take the Derivative of y=cos(2x)
3:21 Example 3 Take Derivative of ((2x-5)/(3x^2))^4
4:31 Example 4 Take Derivative of y=(tan(3x))^2
