Warhorse Red Sea 1972 , Hard Rock, Psychedelic Rock

01:09:42
Warhorse - Red Sea 1972 , Hard Rock, Psychedelic Rock Within weeks of Nick Simper's final show with Deep Purple on July 4th 1969, he had played the Isle Of Wight Festival as part of singer Marsha Hunt's backing band White Trash, and was beginning to plan a new group of his own. After just a couple of gigs with Marsha, Nick realised that the rest of her band weren't really up to the job, said as much, and found himself with the job of finding suitable replacements. He roped in Ged Peck on guitar (with whom he'd toured with The Flowerpot Men and Billie Davis), and his old Pirates band-mate Roger Pinner (aka Roger Truth) on drums. Pinner was soon replaced by Mac Poole. While this was going on Nick still found time for outside work, playing BBC sessions with The James Royal Set, and also putting together his own extracurricular band. Ged Peck and Mac Poole were first on board, followed by singer Ashley Holt, who had auditioned for Deep Purple back in 1968. The James Royal Set's keyboard player Rick Wakeman took part in early rehearsals but proved unreliable, and when the band's first demo was recorded in April 1970 he was replaced by Frank Wilson. Very soon afterwards the band became a full time operation when Marsha Hunt folded her group due to the fact that she was pregnant by Mick JaggerInitial events made it look as if Warhorse's starting path would be similar to that of Deep Purple. A record contract quickly arrived (with the new Vertigo label), an album was recorded, and the band made their debut live show - supporting Mott The Hoople in Hemel Hempstead. 'Warhorse' was released in November 1970, sounding pretty much like a heavier version of Deep Purple Mk1, and fully illustrating how much Nick Simper had contributed to both bands. However, Vertigo's promotion concentrated more on the label than the album, and it undeservedly failed to chart, as did the belated single 'St.Louis' (an Easybeats song which had been in Deep Purple's live repetoire until August 1969). Around the same time, Ged Peck made his exit, apparently after increasing difficulty in dealiing with Simper's pre-eminence in the group. His replacement was Pete Parks from Black August, a band who had been sharing Warhorse's rehearsal room. Warhorse had built up a healthy live following inside their first year, and continued to do so when Pete Parks seamlessly stepped in on guitar, but the band's fortunes had already peaked. They were forced to rush the recording of their second album 'Red Sea', which nevertheless received favourable press reviews, and pushed the band's heavy credentials forward by being more guitar based than its predecessor. However, it received very little label promotion, and soon after its June 1972 release Warhorse were dropped from the roster. Around the same time Mac Poole decided to throw his lot in with Gong, after having deputised with them for a few shows. Drummer Mac Poole was replaced by Barney James, and Warhorse picked themselves up yet again, this time beginning to incorporate soul elements into their music. After a time Rick Wakeman appeared back in the scene. He produced a set of demos for the band, and then borrowed Holt and James to help record his UK #1 'Journey To The Centre of The Earth' solo album. Despite the fact that a new record contract for Warhorse was in the offing, both men decided to throw their lot in permanenty with Wakeman, and in June 1974 Nick Simper decided to bring the band to a close. War Horse: The Real Story (WW1 Documentary) | Timeline

46:24
Check out our new website for more incredible history documentaries: HD and ad-free. http://bit.ly/2O6zUsK This is the extraordinary and deeply moving true story of the million British horses who served in the 'Great War'. It is told using rare archive and testimony, combined with the latest historical research. The story begins with the mass call up of horses from every farm and country estate in the land. Brough Scott evokes the world of Downton Abbey as he tells the tale of his aristocratic grandfather Jack Seely and his beloved horse Warrior. He would become the most famous horse of the war, renowned for his amazing courage. The British army hoped their illustrious cavalry regiments would win a swift victory, but it would be years before they enjoyed their moment of glory. Instead in a new era of mechanised trench warfare it was the heavy horses transporting guns, ammunition and food to the front line troops who were most important. Tragically a quarter of a million of these horses died from shrapnel wounds and disease. But the deep bond that developed between man and horse helped both survive the hell of the Somme and Passchendaele. Behind the lines an army of vets worked miracles to treat injured horses and keep them going. The finest hour of the cavalry came in spring 1918 when – led by the warhorse Warrior – they broke through the German lines and helped win the war. But there was further heartache for the horses when the war came to an end. 85,000 of the oldest were sold for horse meat. Half a million were sold to French farmers to help rebuild the countryside. Only 60,000 made it back to Britain. Six black horses that survived the war together would pull the body of the unknown warrior to its last resting place in Westminster Abbey. But the most famous war horse of all to return in glory was Warrior. His story, like the million other British horses who served, should never be forgotten. Content licensed from TVF International. LYRICS: I, lost myself in the tide today Now, there’s nothing left of this last game we played Peel off skin, layer by layer Piece by piece, the pain gets deeper Gasp for air… Oh, my hurricane Save me, save me, oh Mmm…torn away You left me to bleed out, alone on the edge, wounds raw and red Façade flies away and I’m trapped in this now, drifting aimlessly The sun never sets and the light floods to every little truth we left unsaid I wait for the shadows, with nothing to live for, oh… Won’t you save me Save me from the nothing I’ve become Oh my dark angel, come My hurricane save me, save me Here I stand, I won’t let go My hurricane save me, save me, oh All…said and done No one to belong to, too broken inside to re-connect But now that you’re here, now I can breathe again Won’t you save me Save me from the nightmare I’ve become Oh my dark angel, come My hurricane save me, save me Here I stand, I won’t let go My hurricane save me, save me, oh

Warhorse - Woman Of The Devil

07:17
Warhorse - Woman Of The Devil Album: Warhorse (1970) Warhorse was a British rock band formed by the bass guitar player Nick Simper. After being sacked by Deep Purple in 1969, Simper joined Marsha Hunt's backing band. Not long after, Simper replaced her backing band with Ged Peck on guitar and Mac Poole on drums. When Hunt became pregnant, the band stopped touring, and Simper and Peck re-organized the group as Warhorse. Ashley Holt became the band's singer, and they recruited the keyboard player Rick Wakeman. When their first demo was recorded in April 1970, Wakeman was replaced by Frank Wilson. Warhorse signed to Vertigo, and released their first album, Warhorse in November 1970. Warhorse was managed by Ron Hire, originally part of HEC Enterprises, the original investors in Deep Purple. The band began to tour, but made little progress, and the album failed to chart. A single, "St. Louis", was released, which failed to chart. By 1971, after arguments about style, Peck left and moved to classical guitar playing. He was replaced by Pete Parks. In June 1972, their next album, Red Sea, was released, but soon after Warhorse was dropped from the label. Around the same time, Poole decided to leave Warhorse for Gong. The band carried on, and replaced Poole with Barney James. Wakeman used both Holt and James for his solo album, Journey to the Centre of the Earth. Warhorse's last concert in 1974 was at Polhill College, Bedford. Warhorse musicians (Holt, Parks, Simper, Wilson, and Poole) have since played together on occasions, including 1985 and 2005, latterly for drummer Poole's 60th birthday. Poole died on 21 May 2015. #Krautrock #ProgressiveRock #HardRock #SpaceRock #SeventiesRock #Music #Music70's #warhorse

Warhorse - Vulture Blood (1970)

06:15
Doch dazu gibt es vielleicht später mal was hier... http://www.purplogged.com/warhorse.htm Formed in 1970 around ex-Deep Purple bassist Nick Simper, Warhorse were understandably close to early Deep Purple in their blend of keyboard-colored progressive rock and early heavy metal. The group coalesced when Simper left Deep Purple in 1969 to lead soul singer Marsha Hunt's backing band, which included Rick Wakeman on keyboards for a while. The backing band formed the nucleus of Warhorse, which recorded a couple of albums for Vertigo in the early 1970s. With their early hard rock/metal sounds and a singer (Ashley Holt) who could roll into over-serious, high stentorian vocal phrases, the group have also been compared to early Black Sabbath, although they lacked the hooks necessary to achieve the same level of success as Sabbath or Purple. Echoes of Yes (in the keyboards) and perhaps Uriah Heep can be heard as well. Warhorse broke up in 1973, with drummer Mac Poole joining Gong, and Holt and drummer Barney James (who briefly replaced Poole in Warhorse's final days) going to Rick Wakeman's band.

Warhorse - Vulture Blood

Warhorse - Vulture Blood Album: Warhorse (1970) Warhorse was a British rock band formed by the bass guitar player Nick Simper.

In 1969 Nick Simper left Deep Purple and went back to Marsha Hunt the band he played before, then reformed the band joined Ged Peck, Mack Pole and Ashley Holt as singer, Rick Wakeman (the Lord of Keyboards) who then was replaced by Frank Wilson. Simper named the band WAR HORSE in 1970. War Horse has been the most Crude, agressive, enigmatic and Heavy band of the Hard Rock in the 70s. Holt has been the most powerful voice since that age up today. The 1st album "WAR HORSE" 1970 is a master piece of agressiveness and Depressive Rock made with the taste of the big gods in each instrument. In this video we can apreciate the change the band had: The Guitarist is not Ged Peck the "master" who decided go back to classical music, Peter Parks replaced him (what a shame). Parks is the guitarist of their second album Red Sea (nothing as the first album).

WARHORSE 1971 Live!!!!

When Nick Simper was kicked out of the original Deep Purple in 1969, he must have been pretty upset. Apparently, the reason he was asked to leave was because the band didn't feel that his playing was heavy enough for the style they were trying to go for. Nick set out to do battle and prove his former bandmates were wrong and Warhorse was his vehicle. After struggling briefly in Marsha Hunt's White Trash (which also featured Rick Wakeman before he joined Yes), Nick found a common musical ground with other members, guitarist Ged Peck and drummer Mac Poole, who all felt that they were going nowhere in that band. Adding to their arsenal, they found an excellent piano/organ player in ex-Velvet Fogg member Frank Wilson and an intensely strong young vocalist, Ashley Holt, who would later play a very big part in Rick Wakeman's solo band. The results of this collaboration are some of the most frightening, viscous, raucous, heavy rock of the early 70's that I have ever heard. Originally released on the Vertigo label, the music on Warhorse's debut album starts off very eerie. There's a very quiet muffled organ for a few seconds and right when you turn up the volume to get a better listen to what's going on..POW! The whole band comes in and beats you over the head with its sheer power. Folks, this is prime early metal that could have easily given a band like Black Sabbath quite a fight. The album is full of aggressive basslines, powerful drumming, killer guitar and monstrous organ playing. Holt's voice is incredible here as well. He really belts out the heavy vocals with an amazing energy that he didn't get to show off on the Wakeman albums.

Warhorse Warhorse 1970 Hard Rock, Psychedelic Rock

01:10:41
Warhorse - Warhorse 1970 Hard Rock, Psychedelic Rock Warhorse biography Most famous for being the band of ex-MK1 PURPLE bassist Nicky Simper, this group also had in members Ashley Holt on vocals, Mac Poole on drums, Frank Wilson on kbs and respectively Ged Peck and Pete Parker on guitars on their first and second albums. Their first album is very much in the mould of DEEP PURPLE in between the Mk1 and Mk2 sound, but their second is an harder edged affair with more prominent affair. Both albums are quite fine in quality and should please most progheads into the 70's. It is interesting to make a parallel between WARHORSE and CAPTAIN BEYOND as that band had the other ex-PURPLE frontman Rod Evans, and they also developed an harder edged sound than that of Mk1 PURPLE, one of the reasons Ritchie BLACKMORE sacked the two unlucky boys. in November 1970, a new album came along that you just knew was destined to fulfill every last vertiginous criteria for which Vertigo was renowned. It was by Warhorse, and boy, it was heavy! The fun faded in on neoclassical Hammond organ, a dark lilt that sounded as though it was recorded from an immense distance - so immense that when the rest of the band burst in, just under a minute into the melody, even the phonograph needle jumped in shock... The connection to the Purple family tree remains most people's immediate introduction to Warhorse today...contemporary reviews would most commonly compare Warhorse to labelmates Black Sabbath. In fact modern ears will discern more resemblance to (Nick) Simper's old buddies in Deep Purple...almost everything that Purple would accomplish on 1971's Fireball and beyond was already in place in 1970, courtesy of Warhorse... by Dave Thompson Tracks: All compositions by Warhorse except where noted. 01.
