Group Tries To Swim Across The Dead Sea

01:23
(15 Nov 2016) FOR CLEAN VERSION SEE STORY NUMBER: 4066066 A group is attempting the first swim on record across the Dead Sea from Jordan to Israel in a seven-hour effort to raise awareness of the famous body of water's environmental deterioration. The 25 swimmers, hailing from Israel, the Palestinian territories, South Africa, England, Denmark, Spain and New Zealand started the journey at dawn Tuesday. The swimmers are backed by support vessels stocked with medicine, water and food. They are wearing specially designed masks to protect them from the caustic water, heavy with salt and minerals, from burning their eyes and causing life-threatening injury if swallowed. The swim was organized to raise awareness of "the catastrophe" of the Dead Sea, now at one-third of its historic size, said Mira Edelstein, Jordan River project manager at EcoPeace which helped organise the event. Dead sea amazing natural phenomenon - DeadSea salt cubes

01:20
Cubes of salt washed up on the shore in the Deadsea (Israel Dead sea, Deadsea) Dead sea (from wikipedia): also called the Salt Sea, is a salt lake bordering Jordan to the east, and Palestine and Israel to the west. near Jerusalem. Its surface and shores are 427 metres (1,401 ft) below sea level, Earth's lowest elevation on land. The Dead Sea is 306 m (1,004 ft) deep, the deepest hypersaline lake in the world. With 34.2% salinity (in 2011), it is also one of the world's saltiest bodies of water, though Lake Vanda in Antarctica (35%), Lake Assal (Djibouti) (34.8%), Lagoon Garabogazköl in the Caspian Sea (up to 35%) and some hypersaline ponds and lakes of the McMurdo Dry Valleys in Antarctica (such as Don Juan Pond (44%)) have reported higher salinities. It is 9.6 times as salty as the ocean. This salinity makes for a harsh environment in which animals cannot flourish, hence its name. The Dead Sea is 50 kilometres (31 mi) long and 15 kilometres (9 mi) wide at its widest point. It lies in the Jordan Rift Valley, and its main tributary is the Jordan River. The Dead Sea has attracted visitors from around the Mediterranean basin for thousands of years. Biblically, it was a place of refuge for King David. It was one of the world's first health resorts (for Herod the Great), and it has been the supplier of a wide variety of products, from balms for Egyptian mummification to potash for fertilizers. People also use the salt and the minerals from the Dead Sea to create cosmetics and herbal sachets. The Dead Sea seawater has a density of 1.240 kg/L, which makes swimming similar to floating." dead seas near Jerusalem halite phenomenon (from wikipedia): "commonly known as rock salt, is the mineral form of sodium chloride (NaCl). Halite forms isometric crystals. The mineral is typically colorless or white, but may also be light blue, dark blue, purple, pink, red, orange, yellow or gray depending on the amount and type of impurities. It commonly occurs with other evaporite deposit minerals such as several of the sulfates, halides, and borates" - more in wikipedia view more interesting videos like : "15 Craziest Natural Phenomena on Earth" "Ice Balls forming along Lake Michigan near Glen Arbor" "2014 WHAT IS GOING ON? Dead Sea (Ezekiel) Prophecy Fulfilled ! Israel News! Fish swimming along Dead Sea's shores!

09:36
“And it shall come to pass in that day that living waters shall go out from Yerushalayim: half of them toward the eastern sea and half of them toward the western sea; in summer and in winter shall it be.” Zechariah 14:8 (The Israel Bible™) Then said he unto me: ‘These waters issue forth toward the eastern region and shall go down into the Arabah; and when they shall enter into the sea into the sea of the putrid waters the waters shall be healed. And it shall come to pass that every living creature wherewith it swarmeth whithersoever the rivers shall come shall live; and there shall be a very great multitude of fish; for these waters are come thither that all things be healed and may live whithersoever the river cometh. Ezekiel 47:8-9 (The Israel Bible) Almost ten times saltier than the ocean, nothing can live in the Dead Sea’s hyper-saline environment – Or so scientists thought until recently. Scientific research has proved the existence of life at the bottom of the sea, but due to a unique set of circumstances, signs of life have begun appearing on its very shores, precisely as it is written in the Book of Prophets in the Bible. A young woman on a nature hike was shocked recently when she discovered freshwater ponds with fish on the shores of the Dead Sea. Samantha Siegel, a Jewish woman living in Jerusalem, often takes trips to the desert and the ancient body of water. On a recent visit, she encountered an incongruous sight with powerful implications: a prophecy appearing before her eyes that seemed to contradict the laws of nature.... China's Dead Sea swimming pool in Sichuan - no comment

01:53
Thousands of swimmers filled an indoor wave pool to the brim in southwest China's Sichuan Province, creating a scene resembling "boiling dumplings" as visitors try to escape the unrelenting heat wave. Known as "China's Dead Sea", the saltwater pool located in an amusement park in Sichuan's Daying County is attracting more than 12,000 tourists every day, as temperatures in parts of the province hit 41 degrees Celsius this week. Nearly 15,000 people visited the pool on Saturday, almost triple what was envisaged by the pool's designers. "There's so many people here, it's like a cauldron of boiling dumplings," said one of the swimmers at the crowded pool. In response to rising safety concerns, pool administrators said they have taken steps to prevent any danger. "There are six to eight people dealing with emergencies and two to three lifeguards patrolling on the stage. Also, we have sent about a dozen staff workers into the crowd to watch over visitors around the pool," said Wang Tongming, manager of the "China's Dead Sea" Water Amusement Park. Wang said that a clinic has also been set up near the wave pool to deal with minor injuries. According to Xinhua news agency, the pool received over a million visitors last summer. Buoyancy - Can you drown in the dead sea? | #aumsum #kids #education #science #learn

02:19
Topic: Buoyancy Can you drown in the dead sea? Your answer must be yes, right? You must be thinking that anybody who cannot swim will obviously drown, whether it is a swimming pool or the dead sea. However, that is not 100% true. Confused? Let me explain to you. When an object is partly or wholly immersed in a fluid, an upward force is exerted by the fluid on that object. This tendency of the fluid to exert an upward force on the object is called buoyancy or upthrust. This upward force is called buoyant force. So, do you finally get it? Let me give you one more example. Place a piece of wood in water and push it downwards. What do you observe? It seems like something is pushing the piece of wood upwards, right? Water exerts an upward force on the wood. That is why the wood is getting pushed upwards. This force is called buoyant force and the tendency of water to exert that buoyant force is called buoyancy. Dead sea has a huge amount of salt dissolved in it as compared to any other sea or ocean. The presence of this salt increases density of water present in the dead sea. Higher density leads to greater buoyant force. As the dead sea has very high density, it exerts enough amount of buoyant force to make us float on it. So, if we can float on the dead sea, we are definitely not going to drown in it.

First Swim Across The Dead Sea

00:49
Nearly 30 swimmers braved the harsh conditions of 'The Dead Sea" to become the first people in the world to swim the entire 9 mile stretch from Jordan to Israel. The water is so unhospitable that their swimsuits were stiffened from the crystalized salt and their eyes were stung by the acid-like water. After nearly 7 hours in the water the exhausted swimmers were finally pulled finished .The marathon was led by Kim Chambers who brought in swimmers from across the globe to raise awareness about global climate change, the drastically lowering sea level and the mining industry that is causing the evaporation of The Dead Sea. http://www.cnn.com/2016/11/15/middleeast/dead-sea-distance-swim-israel/index.html http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com

Floating in the Dead Sea ...You Can't Sink!

03:04
The Dead Sea (Hebrew: יָם הַמֶּלַח, Yam ha-Melah, "Sea of Salt", also Hebrew: יָם הַמָּוֶת, Yam ha-Mavet, "The Sea of Death", and Arabic: البحر الميت‎‎ About this sound Al-Bahr al-Mayyit (help·info)), also called the Salt Sea, is a salt lake bordered by Jordan to the east and Israel and Palestine to the west. Its surface and shores are 429 metres (1,407 ft) below sea level, Earth's lowest elevation on land. The Dead Sea is 304 m (997 ft) deep, the deepest hypersaline lake in the world. With 34.2% salinity (in 2011), it is 9.6 times as salty as the ocean, and one of the world's saltiest bodies of water. This salinity makes for a harsh environment in which plants and animals cannot flourish, hence its name. The Dead Sea is 50 kilometers (31 mi) long and 15 kilometers (9 mi) wide at its widest point. It lies in the Jordan Rift Valley and its main tributary is the Jordan River. The Dead Sea water has a density of 1.24 kg/liter, which makes swimming similar to floating. Biblical period- Dwelling in caves near the Dead Sea is recorded in the Hebrew Bible as having taken place before the Israelites came to Canaan, and extensively at the time of King David. Just northwest of the Dead Sea is Jericho. Somewhere, perhaps on the southeastern shore, would be the cities mentioned in the Book of Genesis which were said to have been destroyed in the time of Abraham: Sodom and Gomorra (Genesis 18) and the three other "Cities of the Plain", Admah, Zeboim and Zoar (Deuteronomy 29:23). Zoar escaped destruction when Abraham's nephew Lot escaped to Zoar from Sodom (Genesis 19:21-22). Before the destruction, the Dead Sea was a valley full of natural tar pits, which was called the vale of Siddim. King David was said to have hidden from Saul at Ein Gedi nearby. In Ezekiel 47:8-9 there is a specific prophecy that the sea will ".. be healed and made fresh", becoming a normal lake capable of supporting marine life. A similar prophecy is stated in Zechariah 14:8, which says that "Living waters will go out from Jerusalem, half of them to the eastern sea (likely the Dead Sea) and half to the western sea (the Mediterranean)..." Greek and Roman period- Aristotle wrote about the remarkable waters. The Nabateans and others discovered the value of the globs of natural asphalt that constantly floated to the surface where they could be harvested with nets. The Egyptians were steady customers, as they used asphalt in the embalming process that created mummies. The Ancient Romans knew the Dead Sea as "Palus Asphaltites" (Asphalt Lake). King Herod the Great built or rebuilt several fortresses and palaces on the western bank of the Dead Sea. The most famous was Masada, where in 70 CE a small group of Jewish zealots fled after the fall of the destruction of the Second Temple. The zealots survived until 73 CE, when a siege by the X Legion ended in the deaths by suicide of its 960 inhabitants. Another historically important fortress was Machaerus (מכוור), on the eastern bank, where, according to Josephus, John the Baptist was imprisoned by Herod Antipas and died. Also in Roman times, some Essenes settled on the Dead Sea's western shore; Pliny the Elder identifies their location with the words, "on the west side of the Dead Sea, away from the coast ... [above] the town of Engeda" (Natural History, Bk 5.73); and it is therefore a hugely popular but contested hypothesis today, that same Essenes are identical with the settlers at Qumran and that "the Dead Sea Scrolls" discovered during the 20th century in the nearby caves had been their own library. Josephus identified the Dead Sea in geographic proximity to the ancient Biblical city of Sodom. However, he referred to the lake by its Greek name, Asphaltites. Various sects of Jews settled in caves overlooking the Dead Sea. The best known of these are the Essenes of Qumran, who left an extensive library known as the Dead Sea Scrolls. The town of Ein Gedi, mentioned many times in the Mishna, produced persimmon for the temple's fragrance and for export, using a secret recipe. "Sodomite salt" was an essential mineral for the temple's holy incense, but was said to be dangerous for home use and could cause blindness. The Roman camps surrounding Masada were built by Jewish slaves receiving water from the towns around the lake. These towns had drinking water from the Ein Feshcha springs and other sweetwater springs in the vicinity. Byzantine period- Intimately connected with the Judean wilderness to its northwest and west, the Dead Sea was a place of escape and refuge. The remoteness of the region attracted Greek Orthodox monks since the Byzantine era. Their monasteries, such as Saint George in Wadi Kelt and Mar Saba in the Judean Desert, are places of pilgrimage.
First Scientific Diving Expedition at the Dead Sea

02:48
BGU researchers have today that they have discovered deep springs on the floor of the Dead Sea, which provide fresh water to the rapidly dwindling lake. Meanwhile, a parallel study by German researchers has found new forms of life growing around the fissures in the sea floor. The Dead Sea is shrinking as the water level drops at an alarming rate -- about a meter a year. Israeli and German scientists have been researching groundwater springs which discharge from the sea floor to understand the impact of this process on this unique ecosystem. While the existence of springs has been known for decades as people observed ripples on the surface, the scientists have discovered deep springs not visible from shore.

Biblical end of days prophecy Comes True as fish swim again in Dead Sea

03:47
#DeadSea #ProphetEzekiel #Ezekielvision A BIBLICAL prophecy may be coming true after fish were spotted swimming in the Dead Sea – mirroring Prophet Ezekiel’s vision. Ezekiel is a key figure in the Bible and in his end-of-days prophecy, he foresees the Dead Sea flourishing into life – something that is considered to be impossible due to its high salt content. Israeli photojournalist Noam Bedein has reported sightings of marine life in small sinkholes around the Dead Sea, as well as vegetation growing.
