Launched in 2010, the competition has been raising awareness for conservation by showcasing the most exciting and revealing camera-trap images being captured by conservationists around the world. In the three research categories, the judges give particular weight to the contribution that each image makes to scientific knowledge. These are the winning images from the 2011 competition. We are repeating the competition this year with a new British Wildlife category for amateur photographers experimenting with remote cameras. We are grateful to have Páramo Directional clothing as a sponsor again this year. Don't forget to send in your entries for this year's competition --deadline 13th July 2012. http://www.discoverwildlife.com/webform/camera-trap-photo-year-2012-final-call-entries You can also read more about the competition on our website: http://www.worldlandtrust.org/news/2012/04/enter-bbc-wildlife-magazine-camera-trap-photo-year-awards-2012

The global trade in wildlife is worth an estimated US$20 billion a year. Peru is one of the most biodiverse nations on the planet. But its government estimates 400 species of fauna and flora are in danger of extinction - illicit trafficking is one of the biggest threats. The illegal wildlife trade supplies live birds and animals - mackaws, parrots, monkeys, turtles - for both the local market and overseas collectors. It also commercialises body parts - the rare Andean bear, and the feathers of condors. So how is Peru attempting to protect its precious resources? Fabulous and stunning African Wildlife. YouTube compresses video files when we upload them. If you want to enjoy premium 5K quality, we recommend downloading the film from http://proartinc.net/shop/4k-wildlife-relax/5k-wildlife-mana-pools/ Enjoy this short preview of the 5K wildlife video from http://proartinc.net and https://www.beautifulwashington.com Our fantastic 5K documentary film was shot in Mana Pools National Park in Northern of Zimbabwe on the border of Zambia in the Zambezi Valley. Mana Pools is an ideal place to enjoy nature and wildlife in close proximity. It a remote park, it is situated far from major towns and settlements. Just nature, animals, birds, serenity and tranquility. The park is known for its profusion of wildlife and spectacular scenery. Mana means ‘four’ in Shona (one of the local languages). This refers to the four permanent pools that remain on the floodplain after the rains. These long pools are a remnant of the Zambezi river’s past meanderings, and attract large populations of elephants, buffalo, baboons, impala and other animals during the dry season. Predators and scavengers such as lions, hyena and wild dogs are frequently sighted in the area. Mana Pools is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and one of the few big game areas in Africa that guests are allowed to explore on foot. This beautiful video was shot by Robert Hofmeyr. Perhaps the last place you’d expect to find a wildlife haven is on one of the largest landfill sites in Europe. For 50 years Mucking Marshes on the Thames Estuary was a site where thousands of tons of rubbish was spread over the land every day. Since closing seven years ago though, the place has transformed into one of our region’s most ecologically rich spots – as naturalist Mike Dilger discovered.

What started as derelict croft and rough farmland now, 26 years later, has three ponds, dozens of boxes for bats and nesting birds, and hidden spots for hedgehogs. Planting provides food for wildlife and Helen delays trimming hedges until the birds finish nesting. Birds, bats, hedgehogs, butterflies, moths and bees visit. The compost heaps attract pygmy shrews and roe deer like the wildflower meadow. Helen's garden is very natural, with ponds, wildflowers and native shrubs – plus a diverse collection of habitats.

Occurred on December 8, 2017 / Antarctic Ocean "My wife and I are wildlife photographers. I shoot for Australian Geographic magazine. 10 years ago, we started photo tour company, taking small groups of enthusiast photographers to the most amazing wildlife experiences in the world including Kenya, Galapagos, Amazon, Patagonia, Iceland, Greenland, Christmas Island, Alaska and others. Last summer, we ran our first photo tour to Antarctica and South Georgia, which was amazing. It was while we were ashore in South Georgia on this huge gravel beach filled with King Penguins and elephant seals, that Jess laid down on the ground to get some cool low-angle shots of some passing King Penguins, when suddenly one of these huge baby elephant seals flopped over to investigate Jess, and was soon joined by another. Before she knew it, she was being squashed by several of these 100kg+ adorable animals, snuffling, burping and sniffing all over her. The hazards of being a wildlife photographer! The same thing happened to me and a few of our photo tour guests. A totally unforgettable experience! You’re not allowed to go too close to the wildlife of course, but it’s a different story when they come up to you! Eventually Jess managed to extract herself from underneath these guys and escape." Faced with an impenetrable jungle of brambles, fallen trees, rubbish and junk, Pam had a hard task ahead in creating the wildlife haven she has today. Developed in keeping with the natural environment, Pam opened up the ‘jungle’ to reveal plants, to which she added more, mainly from seed or division. The result is a tranquil place with ponds, lush vegetation and vibrant flowers, teeming with wildlife including amphibians, birds, squirrels, insects, badgers and deer. “The garden is still evolving, but the transformation in only three years is amazing” says Pam. “Derek the deer and Wallace the woodpecker certainly seem to appreciate it.”

What is the best lens for wildlife photography? That is a question I get asked a lot but a question that is very hard if not impossible to answer. ••• FOLLOW ME ON INSTAGRAM ••• To see more of my photos and to read my behind the scenes stories. https://www.instagram.com/mortenhilmer/ In this episode of Photographer's Friday I am sharing my thoughts about which lenses I use for wildlife photography and why. I have just got the new Nikon 180-400mm f/4 1,4 TC to play with for a couple of weeks and that might be the best lens for me - only time can tell. Because we all have different needs and different preferences it will be hard to find a lens that is best for everyone - also because we can not get everything in just one lens without sacrificing either sharpness and speed or flexibility and lightweight. In this video I am telling about my Nikon 600mm f/4 VR super telephoto lens, the Tamron 150-600mm g2 telephoto zoom and then finally the new Nikon 180-400mm f/4 1,4 TC. AND sorry for talking so much - it is just such a hard topic and I am trying my best to get around the things I feel matter when it comes to choosing lenses for wildlife photography. Belize. Nestled between two continents, this small but lush Central American country is known for its abundance of nature and wildlife. Find out at: http://www.wanderlust.co.uk/discover-belize Over half the country is covered in forest, making it a perfect home for diverse, rare and exciting species. It’s a birdwatcher’s paradise, with over five hundred species recorded. Among them, the iconic keel-billed toucan, famous for its beak and vibrant plumage. It shares its leafy home with a whole range of fascinating creatures, such as the long-tailed spider monkey and the black howler monkey. If you are staying in one of Belize's eco-lodges your morning alarm clock may be its primeval roar. The forest canopy might be a hive of activity, but there is just as much happening on the ground. The tapir is Latin America’s largest land mammal, and the national animal of Belize. It is shy and secretive but look out for its tracks on forest walks. But for every quirky animal at home in the wilderness of Belize, something all-powerful stalks its shadows. The jaguar. This magnificent predator is Belize's largest cat, and the true king of the jungle. Conservation is one of Belize’s crowning achievements. As well as forests and mountains rich with biodiversity, its shores boast a beautiful coral reef - the second largest in the world, and where you can swim and snorkel with a range of exotic marine life. For real lovers of wildlife and nature, this place is unbeatable. Bursting with life, and home to some of the last real wilderness on earth, Belize is waiting to be explored by lovers of the natural world.
