With the steak frites, I've noticed that each restaurant in Paris I've been to, it's different. I think it might be a regional thing - in Paris, you can get anything from any French region, because all the French train lines meet in the city centre. I recommend that you have it well done (FR: Bien cuit). Anything less than that and it'll be so rare that it isn't even pink in the middle. Although I'm British, I do have some Irish ancestry (as is evident from my surname) so I usually have my steak well done anyway. But not so well done that it's like shoe leather. That's how Donald Trump has it. I have my steak how the Irish have it. The French love the Irish, by the way. They hate the British and Americans but love the Irish.

Hope you enjoyed your trip but you have to come back to eat as it should the Tartare :-) Beef is not the only meat used for this dish, i personnally, and i hope you won't be shocked, eat it with horse meat. There's people who eat rabbit, snails, frogs legs and all kinds of offal ! Every cuisine of the world have their interest. I love Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese and Korean foods. Italian, Spanish and Portuguese are great too. Libanese, Moroccan and Indian foods are excellent. As French, i love the cuisine of my country because of the high variety and because we often put the product itself in valor without too much changes with artificial ingredients. There're so many dishes to taste that it is impossible to tell you what to try! The dishes are constantly renewed and reinvented in kitchens, whether people prepare meals every day for their family or the chefs who improve and showcase the best products. I don't know what the Americans have with the onions soup... I've never seen any French eating some. They serve it only for tourists. That makes me think it should be very difficult to find a correct one in a Parisian restaurant. Concerning the macarons : There is a big debate about who makes the best macarons. From my point of view Ladurée (the inventor of the current version of the macarons) and Hermés are not comparable. Hermés macarons may be better, but (as you find out yourself), the flavors proposed are quiet experimental. By the way, the croissants at Hermés are stunning. Other dishes you could try : Carré d'agneau, choucroute, pot au feu, confit de canard, cassoulet, petit salé, choux farci, tripes, ris de veau, blanquette de veau, hachi parmentier, foi gras, carpaccio de boeuf, andouillette, fruits de mer, ... and definitely cheese(s) !!!

I expected you'll try traditional french dishes and not just some macarons, croissant et galette de sarrasin (it wasn't crêpes)... if you really want to discover french gastronomy it's not in Paris (massive tourism) but in other part of France... Enjoy your next trip :)

Tatar looks terrible. The meat (beef fillet) must be chopped very finely. I see minced meat. This is a mistake! This is the restaurateur's laziness or none knowledge. This is also one of the national Polish dish. This error appears too. The consistency of the meat is pulling. It's disgusting then. You should mix everything thoroughly and season on the plate. Eat with a fresh baguette and good natural butter. It sips with very cold pure vodka.

You did make some nice choices.the Pierre Herme’ macaroons looked gorgeous. I envy you having that beautiful plate of beef tartare also. I did want to say that rose essence or rose water is an ancient flavour in sweets. It originally comes from Persia and India. Maybe it was a teeny bit too strong.

The macaroons are so overrated I wouldn't waste my money on them. Your comment about croissants I question, I don't think the French use margarine at all.

I got the feeling you weren't completely knocked out by your eating experience in Paris. ??? Gross maybe???? You won't be the first, or last!!! My own experience, which probably reflects many other comments is that there's typically tourist food, and there's authentic (legit), much more tricky to find. Ok that's common everywhere but no more so than in Paris. In the 1970's I had the best steak and chips ever in the outskirts of Paris, in the Turkish quarter, (it might have been horse but still brilliant) and the worst in the city centre. It's a shame the French treat visitors like they are stupid and vulnerable, giving them chewy, third rate dishes when people have travelled so far. Which is not to say you can't get get food in Paris, just that you need a guide. It sucks because the French really understand good food, wine, and eating. But many cheat people too, and they really don't care either, they just show attitude when you protest. I wasn't impressed with the look of your steak tartar or the onion soup, the soup particularly looked pale (almost grey!) thin and unappetising. The steak should come from fresh fillet and mixed up with all the ingredients on your plate, nicely seasoned. In my opinion French onion soup is a world classic but it's not easy or cheap to make, needs beef bones for a rich stock, lots and LOTS of fresh onions and slow, slow cooking, which makes it expensive to prepare, but worth every bit. The French really do eat and like tartar, I see them eat it in small cafe's, but not in city centre cafe's. Thanks as ever guys, it was fascinating as ever.

Was really sweet seeing you two going on your culinary quest together (impressed you waited an hour for street food). However, screw that steak tartare. The saying 'don't knock it until you've tried it' is stretched to breaking point there, as far as I'm concerned.

awww hahaha, it made me cringe when she took some steak tartare and dipped it in the egg. I was almost shouting to the screen NOOOOOO, don't do it mix it! :P The croissant didn't look like the very best either. Next time, also try a nice fresh baguette.

Firstly mix the ingredients (egg yolk, Dijon mustard, onion, capers, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, tabasco, salt and pepper) with the raw meat before eating a Tartar! Otherwise it's rather bland guy!

Don't go to these places... Obvious tourist traps. 10 euros for a galette ? Ha ! Ha ! Ha ! Do some research before traveling. Is this that complicated ? The tartare you had was a fucking joke ! It's not supposed to be raw meet out of a grinder, lol.. Supposed to be cut "au couteau" with a lot of mix ingredients. OBVIOUSLY ! The problem with uncooked beef is not the texture or the flavour or bacterial contamination, it's the very high risk of intestinal parasites - this information comes from a video I watched by an expert on the subject of human parasites - she said she would never even eat rare beef.

Chef Andros : Steak tartare should be mixed with all ingredients including salt, black pepper and mustard. You don't use a fork, you spread it on toast or grouton. The meat must be very fresh, BUT you always have the risk of E-coli. Personally I advised my customers not to have it just to show off !!!!

I enjoyed the video myself. I'm such a francophile. The macarons looked good, along with the crepes, the french onion soup, steak tartare, the croissants, & the baguettes. My suggestion, try escargots (Snails), steak frites, pain au chocolat (croissants stuffed with dark chocolate), & steak au poivre.

You don't have to buy that box, you can just ask for a number of macarons and they put in a box that is free, at Pierre Hermé :) I only recommend buying that kind of boxes when you want to take home, to travel with it.

Love steak tartare - with all the ingredients mixed in and not on the side. That's why you thought it tasted like only raw ground beef. Next time, try it as it was intended and I think you'll notice the taste difference! If you're traveling, be food adventurous. You'll discover some delights.

If you ever get to germanies southern parts there is something called "Bratwurst Hack" Which basicly is the same what the Bratwurst is made of, without the formgiving surrounding. It is serverd usually with finely sliced onions and some bread. Some people order also a raw egg yolk with it, like with the beef tatar. Mix it up, put it on the bread, salt and pepper and good to go. In comparison to beef tatar it is made of pigs meat and already mixed with a composition of herbs.

The only time I’ve tried Steak Tartar was in the Italian Alps. It was totally delish, but a week later I realised I was pregnant and spent the next few weeks slightly panicking and feeling guilty! How could I have done that!

The way you ate steak tartare indicated your ignorance of the dish. In France, diners don't request everything on the side....that's so American. You should have let the kitchen properly mix the ingredients ...then you would have known how delicious it is....

Hello! May I suggest some new items and dishes for you to try the next time you’ re in Paris? 1. Canelés - a delicious pastry infused with rum and vanilla, crispy on the outside and custard-like on the inside. 2. Coq au vin - chicken/rooster cooked in a red wine sauce. Delish! 3. Croque-Monsieur - Grilled ham and cheese sandwich with Mornay cheese sauce and Dijon mustard. Yummm. 4. Boeuf Bourgingnon - slow cooked beef in a wine sauce. A must try. 5. Foie gras. You can’t go to Paris (or indeed anywhere in France) without trying this delicacy. 6. Absinthe. This was the go-to beverage for Parisiens during the Belle Epoque, until it was banned in 1914. Now it has made a tremendous comeback, with absinthe bars dotting the bar scene of Paris. A 70% alchohol liquor, tempered with water and sugar during an intricate process using a dispensing water samowar, an ornate filigree spoon and sugarcubes. A beautiful Parisian ritual in its own right, not to be missed! Hope you’ll find these tips useful 😀
